James Bond Frontrunner Josh O’Connor Finally Breaks His Silence on Casting Rumors
The search for the next James Bond is reportedly entering its final stretch. Amazon MGM Studios spent roughly $1 billion to acquire the storied spy franchise, and producer Amy Pascal has said the team’s “methodical” approach to casting 007 should wrap up before the year is out. Online pundits and trade outlets have since narrowed the shortlist to a handful of names: Josh O’Connor, Jack Lowden, Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Paul Mescal and Harris Dickinson, with Turner currently the betting favorite, Lowden in second place and O’Connor in third.
“An Incredibly Bizarre Pinch-Me Moment”
With the announcement reportedly drawing closer, O’Connor has finally addressed the rumors directly in a new interview. He admitted he is honored to even be part of the conversation, describing the speculation as “an incredibly bizarre pinch-me moment.” He added that being mentioned in the same breath as Bond felt extraordinary, though he stopped short of confirming or denying whether he has actually landed the role, saying only that he had nothing further to share on the matter.

A Packed Slate While He Waits
Whatever happens with Bond, O’Connor has hardly been sitting still. He recently led Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi return Disclosure Day alongside Emily Blunt and Colin Firth, starred in Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery for Netflix, a film that notably features two former Bond actors in Daniel Craig and Jeffrey Wright, and headlined the 2025 heist film The Mastermind. All three of the top three contenders, Turner, Lowden and O’Connor, are coincidentally 36 years old, suggesting the search has come down to the finest of margins. Q actor Ben Whishaw has separately argued the franchise needs to be reinvented completely for the Denis Villeneuve-directed reboot, though no casting decision, title or release date has been officially confirmed.
