American Horror Story: 13 Drops Its Trailer, and Ryan Murphy Says It’s Basically ‘The Avengers’ of Every Past Season
FX and Hulu released the official trailer for American Horror Story: 13 this week, confirming the thirteenth season premieres September 24 as a crossover that pulls characters from every prior installment into a single story. Disney+ picks up the season internationally starting September 25.
“It’s Like the Avengers”
Showrunner Ryan Murphy has been teasing the concept for months, and the new trailer finally shows what he meant. “It is like the Avengers. They all come together to defeat the ultimate evil,” Murphy said, pushing back on assumptions that the season would lean mainly on Coven. “Everybody thinks it’s a Coven season and it’s not. It’s all the seasons.” FX’s own description of the trailer sums up the tone in five words: “We’re so back, witches.”

Who’s Coming Back
The headline reunion is Jessica Lange, back in the franchise after several years away and playing all four of her previous AHS characters at once, including Murder House’s Constance Langdon, Asylum’s Sister Jude, Coven’s Fiona Goode, and Freak Show’s Elsa Mars. Sarah Paulson takes on six or seven roles across the season, among them Coven’s Cordelia Goode, while Evan Peters plays five characters spanning Tate Langdon, Kai Anderson, and Hotel’s James Patrick March. The rest of the ensemble folds in Angela Bassett as Marie Laveau and Emma Roberts as Madison Montgomery, alongside Kathy Bates, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman, Frances Conroy, John Carroll Lynch reprising Twisty the Clown, Mat Fraser, Mena Suvari, and filmmaker John Waters rounding out the returning cast.
How the Season Rolls Out
All 13 episodes arrive in batches rather than a single weekly drop. Three episodes premiere alongside the September 24 launch, after which the season settles into a two-episode-per-week pace that wraps up on October 29.
