Blizzard Confirms the New StarCraft Shooter Won’t Be Exclusive to Xbox, but Stays Quiet on PlayStation
One of the biggest lingering questions since BlizzCon 2026’s shock reveal of a new StarCraft was simple: who gets to play it. Blizzard and Xbox have now given a partial answer. In a follow-up exchange with reporters after the show, a Blizzard representative confirmed the upcoming StarCraft shooter won’t be limited to Xbox platforms, even as the company stayed quiet on whether PlayStation is part of the plan.
What Blizzard Actually Said
Asked whether it would be accurate to describe the new StarCraft as an Xbox exclusive, a Blizzard representative said, “At the moment all we can say is that StarCraft will not be exclusive.” Reporters were told a story claiming Xbox exclusivity would need to be corrected, but a direct follow-up question about a PlayStation version went unanswered, with Blizzard declining to comment. The silence tracks with Xbox’s mixed messaging on exclusivity over the past year, confirming some upcoming titles for its own platforms while sending others to PlayStation and Switch 2 as well. With the game still roughly four years from launch, Blizzard may simply not have made a final call yet.
A Long Way From the Koprulu Sector
The clarification is the first real update since BlizzCon 2026’s Opening Ceremony on September 12, where Blizzard used a cinematic trailer titled Dominion to reveal an entirely new direction for the franchise. Rather than returning to real-time strategy, the new StarCraft is a narrative-driven, open-world shooter led by Dan Hay, the former Far Cry director who joined Blizzard specifically to build it (see our full recap of everything else Blizzard announced that day). The trailer introduced a customizable, nameable Terran marine protagonist called Holt and put the Zerg back in the role of antagonist, though how much of the story involves the Protoss is still unclear, with Blizzard saying only that more would be revealed in the years to come. At a media roundtable the following week, Hay also described the project as a standalone, narrative-focused release rather than a live-service game, saying, “what we are building right now is not a seasonal game.” StarCraft: Dominion is targeting a Spring 2030 release, which Blizzard has called the franchise’s first major new entry in over a decade.
