New Ebenezer Trailer Turns Ti West’s Ghosts of Christmas Into Full-Blown Horror

Paramount Pictures released a new trailer for Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol on October 1, giving the clearest look yet at Ti West’s gothic reimagining of Charles Dickens’ classic. Johnny Depp’s Ebenezer Scrooge is confirmed for a November 13 theatrical release, with the new footage pushing the film’s supernatural side even further than the first teaser did.

The Ghosts Get a Horror Makeover

The roughly two-and-a-half-minute trailer leans harder into body horror than the version Depp debuted at San Diego Comic-Con back in July. Andrea Riseborough’s Ghost of Christmas Past now appears as a gaunt, bald figure in a tattered wedding dress, while Tramell Tillman’s Ghost of Christmas Present looks closer to a plague victim than a jolly giant, with his ribcage visibly exposed beneath rotted robes. It’s a clear sign that West, the director behind the X trilogy and Pearl, is treating Scrooge’s haunting as something closer to a ghost story than a holiday fable.

A Scrooge Surrounded by a Stacked Cast

Depp’s Scrooge is haunted by Ian McKellen as Jacob Marley, with Rupert Grint as Bob Cratchit and Sam Claflin as Scrooge’s nephew Fred rounding out the Dickens regulars. Daisy Ridley, Arthur Conti, Ellie Bamber, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, and Charlie Murphy fill out the rest of the Victorian London ensemble, working from a screenplay by Nathaniel Halpern. Emma Watts produces for Paramount, which shot the film across London and Dublin.

Depp’s Biggest Studio Role in Years

Ebenezer also marks one of Depp’s highest-profile studio lead roles in roughly eight years, following smaller international productions like Jeanne du Barry and Day Drinker. Paramount’s marketing has leaned into that angle almost as much as the Dickens connection, with the trailer and poster both carrying the tagline “The name you know, the story you don’t.” Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol opens exclusively in theaters on November 13.
