Mario Kart Tour Has Officially Shut Down After Seven Years

Mario Kart Tour is no longer playable. Nintendo shut down the mobile racer’s online service at 11pm PT on September 29 (7am BST / 8am CET on September 30), bringing an end to a run that started on September 25, 2019, just over seven years ago.

No Offline Version Is Planned

Unlike Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, which got a paid offline release when its servers closed, Nintendo confirmed that an offline version of Mario Kart Tour is not scheduled for release. That means the app is now permanently unplayable, and anyone who still had it installed is simply locked out.

All In-Game Purchases Are Gone for Good

With the servers offline, every Driver, kart, glider, and other item players spent real money on over the years is lost along with the rest of their progress. Nintendo had already stopped adding new content back in 2023, four years into the game’s life, so the shutdown had been a long time coming even before the official end-of-service notice arrived this past July.

Seven Years of Mobile Karting, by the Numbers

Mobile analytics firm AppMagic estimates that Mario Kart Tour pulled in close to $270 million in lifetime player spending and was downloaded more than 270 million times since launch, numbers that made it one of Nintendo’s most successful smartphone games. In its official farewell message, Nintendo said it wanted to “sincerely thank the many players who have loved and supported the game” since it first launched.
