GTA 5 Modder Shuts Down Unofficial Switch Port After Rockstar’s New Mod Guidelines Crackdown

An unofficial Grand Theft Auto V port for the original Nintendo Switch is not coming out after all. The developer behind the project, who goes by Mojso and leads a small outfit called Paralympics Productions, confirmed the port is being shut down for good, just days before it was set to release. The reversal follows new modding guidelines Rockstar Games published earlier in September 2026, and reporting from GameSpot, GamesRadar+ and Dexerto all frame Take-Two’s intervention as the reason the release never happened.

Rockstar Draws a Hard Line on Unofficial Ports

Rockstar’s updated guidelines spell out what modders are and aren’t allowed to do with the studio’s games, and one rule in particular ended the Switch project: modifying Rockstar’s games to run on consoles or platforms they were never officially released for is now explicitly off limits. Mojso said the studio’s outreach amounted to a cease-and-desist, and rather than fight it, chose to comply instead. “I am thankful for Take-Two’s mercy, so this is the definitive end,” Mojso said, adding that a courtroom fight would likely have gone Rockstar’s way given how solid its legal footing is here.

Not the First Attempt, and Not the Only Cancellation

This isn’t the first time GTA 5 has technically run on Switch hardware. Modders have been chasing a playable port since Rockstar’s source code leaked a few years back, and Paralympics Productions built on that groundwork rather than starting from scratch. The team also had a separate Android version of the port in development, and that project was reportedly cancelled around the same time. It’s a distinct release from the Switch port, though, so the two shouldn’t be read as the same cancellation happening twice.

What Comes Next

Mojso says the project’s code won’t be shared publicly, out of concern that doing so would invite the kind of formal lawsuit the developer is trying to avoid entirely. The shutdown is set to take full effect around October 3. For now, anyone hoping to play GTA 5 on Switch hardware will have to keep waiting, and given Rockstar’s tightened stance on unofficial ports, it’s unlikely another attempt gets much further before facing the same outcome.
