Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Adds Bayonetta as a Free Character, With Godzilla and Evangelion DLC Coming Next
SEGA kicked off Year Two of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on September 16 with a reveal racing fans didn’t see coming: Bayonetta is joining the roster, and she’s doing it for free. The witch from PlatinumGames’ cult classic series is the first new character added since the kart racer passed its first anniversary, arriving with her own custom vehicle and setting the stage for two much bigger crossovers still waiting in the wings.
Bayonetta Brings Her Own Machine to the Track
The reveal came with a short trailer showing Bayonetta racing in her own Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds flavored style. She brings a new vehicle called the Butterfly Witch, built around her signature moveset, along with a set of matching emotes and sound effects. SEGA framed the addition as a continuation of a habit it built up over the game’s first year, adding one free “guest” character from its own franchises (or a partner’s) every month, on top of the paid DLC crossovers.
Bayonetta will join CrossWorlds as the first new character in Year Two.
SEGA, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds announcement

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, the kart racer Bayonetta is about to join as Year Two’s first free character.
A Roster Already Built From Thirteen Guest Stars
Bayonetta isn’t arriving to an empty guest list. Over the course of Year One, SEGA added a total of thirteen free crossover characters to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, pulling from its own franchises, partner IPs, and even other corners of Sonic media:
- Hatsune Miku
- Joker (Persona)
- Ichiban Kasuga (Like a Dragon)
- NiGHTS (NiGHTS into Dreams)
- AiAi (Super Monkey Ball)
- Tangle (IDW Sonic comics)
- Whisper (IDW Sonic comics)
- Red (Angry Birds)
- Goro Majima (Like a Dragon)
- Arle (Puyo Puyo)
- Classic Sonic
- Axel (Crazy Taxi)
- Amigo (Samba de Amigo)
That steady drip of free content ran alongside six paid DLC packs planned for Year One, five of which are already out: Minecraft, SpongeBob SquarePants, Pac-Man, Mega Man, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The sixth, an Avatar: The Last Airbender crossover, is still on the way for October.
Godzilla and Evangelion Are Still to Come
Bayonetta’s free arrival isn’t the only Year Two content SEGA has lined up. Two paid crossover packs, one built around Godzilla and one around Neon Genesis Evangelion, were already confirmed back at Summer Game Fest 2026 as the new season pass’s opening collaborations. SEGA has kept most of the fine print under wraps since then. Rei Ayanami and a version of Asuka are set to appear as playable characters in the Evangelion pack, but the exact vehicle lineups, tracks, and release order for both packs remain unconfirmed. A dedicated Year Two showcase is scheduled for the World Championship Finals broadcast on October 9 in the US (October 10 in Japan, across the time zone difference), where SEGA has promised a fuller look at what’s ahead.
The wait for Bayonetta herself should be shorter. SEGA has only said the update is coming “soon” without a firm date. It’s the latest sign of how hard the publisher is leaning into crossovers across its portfolio this year, following Netflix’s freshly announced slate of Crazy Taxi, Stranger Than Heaven, and Sonic projects. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds remains available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, Switch OLED, Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch 2, with the Bayonetta update expected to arrive free on all of them.
