Artemis Fowl Is Getting an Animated Series on Disney+, With Eoin Colfer Back on Board
Disney has greenlit an animated television adaptation of Eoin Colfer’s Artemis Fowl, with the author himself breaking the news on stage at the “25 Years of Artemis Fowl” panel at New York Comic Con on Saturday, October 11. The series, officially titled Artemis Fowl: The Animated Series, is set for both Disney Channel and Disney+, marking the second screen adaptation of Colfer’s books after the widely panned 2020 live-action film.
Colfer Returns to Shepherd His Own World
Colfer is attached as an executive producer on the new series, putting him directly on the creative team this time around, a role he didn’t have on the 2020 film. He’s joined by fellow executive producers Ben Juwono, an Emmy and Annie Award winner known for work on Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur and Big Hero 6: The Series, and Colleen Evanson, whose credits include DuckTales and Monsters at Work. “I am proud and delighted to be part of the formidable team that is putting the Artemis Fowl animation on screen,” Colfer said, adding that he believes the fairy world is “in excellent hands.”

Eoin Colfer, the Irish author behind the Artemis Fowl novels, now returns as an executive producer on the animated series.
A Teenage Criminal Mastermind Meets a High-Tech Fairy World
The series follows 13-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, who uncovers a hidden underground civilization of armed, technologically advanced fairies. Desperate to heal his dying mother and save his family’s fortune, Artemis sets out to capture a fairy and steal its magic, a plan that pulls him into a conflict with a world far more dangerous than he expected. Disney Kids & Family president Ayo Davis said the books have “captivated readers around the world” for more than two decades and that the series aims to bring that story to a new audience while honoring longtime fans.
The timing lines up with a milestone for the franchise: the first Artemis Fowl novel was published in 2001, making 2026 its 25th anniversary, the same occasion the NYCC panel was built around. In that time, the book series has sold more than 35 million copies worldwide and been translated into 48 languages, numbers that have kept the franchise a perennial target for adaptation despite the 2020 film’s rocky reception. That movie, directed by Kenneth Branagh, had its theatrical release canceled amid the COVID-19 pandemic and went straight to Disney+ instead, where critics and longtime readers panned it for straying from the books’ plot and tone.
Disney hasn’t announced a premiere date, episode count, or voice cast for Artemis Fowl: The Animated Series yet, and it’s not yet clear whether Disney Channel or Disney+ will get first access to new episodes. With Colfer now steering the adaptation from the inside, though, the series has a chance to deliver the version of Fowl Manor and the Lower Elements that the movie never quite found.
