How to Respec in The Blood of Dawnwalker: Update 1.1 Draught of Mind Rebirth Guide
For its first seven weeks, The Blood of Dawnwalker had no way to undo a bad skill choice. That changed on October 22, 2026, when Rebel Wolves released Update 1.1 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The headline feature is a Blood of Dawnwalker respec item called the Draught of Mind Rebirth. In this guide, we explain what the potion does, where players are finding it, what it resets, whether there is a limit and how to plan your new build.
Quick answer: Install Update 1.1, make a manual save, get a Draught of Mind Rebirth and use it. According to the official patch notes, it makes Coen forget all of his Swordmastery, Witchcraft and Vampirism abilities, so you can put the time you spent learning them into a different set of abilities. Rebel Wolves hasn’t officially said where to get it or what it costs, but players report buying it from merchants, with Anca and the Matriarch named most often.
🩸 What Blood of Dawnwalker Update 1.1 Changed
Update 1.1 is the game’s first major post-launch patch. Rebel Wolves announced more than 1,100 improvements and fixes before release, and the official patch notes on Steam list these new features:
- Draught of Mind Rebirth: the new respec potion for all three ability trees.
- Animal petting: yes, you can finally pet the animals.
- Story mode update: the old Story difficulty is now called Forgiving, and a new Story mode adds extra combat assist.
- Subtitle settings: a larger font option and subtitles for all dialogue lines.
The highlights also include a FrameGen update with dedicated settings, adjusted combat animations and camera movement, better targeting, locking on and disengaging, more responsive Shadowstep and Planeshift, and uncensored blood and gore in the Japanese Steam version. A few smaller changes matter for anyone planning a respec:
- Merchants now offer Buyback, and equipped items are hidden when you sell.
- Items can now be equipped in both the day and night presets at the same time.
- Item upgrade costs were rebalanced, especially at higher levels.
- The beehive can no longer provide infinite money, and quest rewards can no longer be claimed twice.
- The merchant in Silberstein should now be available at all times.
🧪 How to Get the Draught of Mind Rebirth
Here’s the catch: neither the official patch notes nor Bandai Namco’s press release say where the Draught of Mind Rebirth comes from, what it costs or whether it restocks. Since the patch went live, players report buying it from merchants, with Anca and the Matriarch named most often. Treat those locations as community reports until Rebel Wolves confirms them. These steps work either way:
- Update the game to version 1.1 on PC, PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
- Make a separate manual save. If you don’t like the new build, you can load your old one.
- Check merchant inventories for the Draught of Mind Rebirth, starting with Anca and the Matriarch.
- Buy it with in-game currency. No paid DLC is needed, but there is no official price yet.
- Drink the Draught, then open your ability trees and learn your new set of abilities.

Before you drink the Draught of Mind Rebirth, keep a manual save of your current build.

📋 What the Blood of Dawnwalker Respec Resets
The patch notes describe the Draught in one sentence, so the table below separates what Rebel Wolves confirms from what it doesn’t mention.
| What | Reset? | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Swordmastery abilities | Yes, all of them | Official patch notes |
| Witchcraft abilities | Yes, all of them | Official patch notes |
| Vampirism abilities | Yes, all of them | Official patch notes |
| Time spent learning abilities | You reuse it to learn different abilities | Official patch notes |
| Days already passed in the campaign | No rewind mentioned | Not in the patch notes |
| Story choices and quest progress | Not mentioned | Not in the patch notes |
| Gear, items and upgrades | Not mentioned | Not in the patch notes |
| Perks | Not mentioned | Not in the patch notes |
The time detail is the important one. In The Blood of Dawnwalker, learning abilities costs in-game time, and the whole campaign runs on a limited budget of days and nights. The official wording says you can use the time you spent learning your old abilities to master new ones. It doesn’t say the calendar rolls back, so don’t expect extra days.
🔁 Is There a Limit on Respecs?
Officially, we don’t know yet. Rebel Wolves hasn’t said whether you can buy more than one Draught, whether merchants restock it or whether you can craft it. Until that’s confirmed, treat every Draught as possibly your only one: plan the new build first, then drink it.
⚔️ Best Builds to Respec Into
There’s no single best build, and the patch changes a few things that should shape your choice:
- Check builds that leaned on bugs: Omniblock’s stamina reduction could go above 100%, which made stamina rise while blocking, and the Wild Blood buff could trigger on feeding without the perk. Both are fixed, so block-heavy and feeding-based setups may feel weaker than before.
- Try a dedicated night setup: since items now work in both the day and night presets, you can mix Swordmastery with Vampirism or Witchcraft without constantly swapping gear.
- Vampirism traversal feels better now: Shadowstep and Planeshift targeting and surface attachment are more responsive, so mobility-focused Vampirism builds are worth another look.
- Play to your weak spot: if one tree carried you through day fights but you struggle at night, the respec is your chance to rebalance across all three trees.
If combat is the real problem rather than your build, the new Story mode might be the better fix. Want to know how the three ability trees fit into the bigger picture? Our The Blood of Dawnwalker review breaks down the combat, world and progression.
