Dave Filoni Confirms the Mortis Gods Are ‘Definitely a Thing’ in Ahsoka Season 2
Ahsoka is heading back into some of the strangest territory in the galaxy far, far away. In a new Empire exclusive published September 22, Lucasfilm president and chief creative officer Dave Filoni confirmed that the Mortis Gods, the mysterious Force deities first introduced in The Clone Wars, will play a role in Ahsoka Season 2 when it premieres January 20, 2027 on Disney+.
The Mortis Gods Are Coming Back Into Play
The Father, the Son, and the Daughter first appeared in The Clone Wars’ Season 3 Mortis arc, godlike Force wielders who embodied balance, light, and dark. Giant statues resembling the trio turned up at the very end of Ahsoka Season 1, when Ahsoka and Sabine arrived on the remote planet Peridea. Fans have wondered ever since whether the show would actually dig into that mythology, and Filoni finally put the question to rest.
“It’s definitely a thing,” Filoni said when asked directly about the Mortis Gods’ role in the new season.
A Story About Power
Filoni, who created the Mortis arc alongside George Lucas, framed the throughline in simple terms: the season is fundamentally about power, and about what a Jedi chooses to do with it. He described that as a natural next step for Ahsoka, a character who has never fully belonged to the Jedi Order she was trained by, and said longtime viewers won’t need a Clone Wars rewatch to follow along.

Anakin, Ezra, and a Bigger Fight Ahead
Season 2 also brings back Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, continuing to appear to Ahsoka following their encounter in the World Between Worlds during Season 1, alongside Eman Esfandi’s Ezra Bridger, who was left stranded across the galaxy with Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) at the end of the first season. Natasha Liu Bordizzo’s Sabine Wren and Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Hera Syndulla round out the returning cast as the New Republic braces for Thrawn’s return.
