Dune: Part Three Smashes BFI IMAX’s First-Day Presale Record, Two Months Before Release
Dune: Part Three doesn’t hit theaters until December, but it has already broken a box office record. London’s BFI IMAX, the UK’s largest cinema screen, sold 33,000 advance tickets for Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming sci-fi epic within 24 hours of going on sale, setting a new first-day presale record for the venue and signaling just how much anticipation is already building for the trilogy’s finale.
A Record-Breaking First Day for Dune: Part Three
The BFI IMAX presale haul for Dune: Part Three came in at more than £880,000 (roughly $990,000), eclipsing the venue’s previous first-day record of £750,000 (around $845,000) from just 28,000 tickets, a mark set earlier this year by Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. The two films share more than a record, though: Robert Pattinson has a role in both, making Dune: Part Three’s milestone a case of him effectively topping his own chart at the historic London screen.

What to Expect From Dune: Part Three
The story picks up roughly twenty years after Dune: Part Two, with Paul Atreides no longer the rebel leader fans watched rise to power but a sitting Emperor struggling to hold his empire together. Old allies resurface, fresh enemies close in, and a plot against him takes shape just as Chani re-enters his life, pulling Paul toward choices that test what he’s willing to sacrifice to keep his throne. Timothée Chalamet returns as Paul, alongside Zendaya as Chani, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Paul’s sister Alia Atreides. Florence Pugh, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, and Robert Pattinson round out the cast, with Denis Villeneuve once again directing from a script he co-wrote with Brian K. Vaughan.
A December Box Office Showdown
Dune: Part Three arrives in theaters and IMAX across North America on December 18, the same day as Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday, setting up one of the year’s biggest box office clashes. Both films will have their work cut out for them against 2026’s current heavyweights, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day having crossed roughly $2.5 billion worldwide and The Odyssey closing in on around $1.8 billion. Whether Dune: Part Three can topple either number remains to be seen, but its record-setting start at the BFI IMAX suggests Villeneuve’s trilogy closer isn’t short on momentum heading into the holidays.
