Enshrouded Flame Level 11 Guide: Every Requirement, Flame Level 10 and How to Push Back the Shroud
Enshrouded 1.0 finally opened the whole map, and the question we see most from players in the late game is how to reach Enshrouded Flame Level 11. The final Flame tier is what lets your Flame Altars push back the Shroud, and it raises your altar limit to 16. To get there, you first need Flame Level 10, which is your ticket into the new Cinder’s Cradle biome. This guide lists every requirement for both upgrades, explains where the key items come from and shows how the new Shroud pushback works, based on Keen Games’ official 1.0 changelog and the current game version (Hotfix 1.0.0.3).
Spoiler note: Flame Level 11 is tied to the end of the main story, so the boss and the items it drops are named below.
Enshrouded Flame Level 11 at a Glance
- Flame Level 10: needs the Broken Guard Of The North Crown from Cromville in the Veilwater Basin. It is the level you need before you enter Cinder’s Cradle, and Keen says it raises the maximum number of Flame Altars to 15.
- Flame Level 11: needs Vorgoth’s Bound Essence and Vorgoth’s Eye, both from the final boss Vorgoth. It is the last Flame Level in 1.0.
- What Flame Level 11 unlocks: up to 16 Flame Altars in your world, and Flame Altars that push back the Shroud around them.
- Shortcut: the Flame Level needed for Shroud pushback can be lowered to any level in the world settings.
Before You Start: Flame Level 9 and the Hydrak’Dal Head
Both new upgrades build on Flame Level 9, the tier from the Veilwater Basin. Its key ingredient is the Hydrak’Dal Head, taken from the Drak’Dal tribe leader you fight in the Veilwater Basin. Keen also lowered the material costs of Flame Levels 6, 7, 8 and 9 in 1.0 and replaced Electric Organs and Poison Stings with more common resources, so older cost lists from Early Access no longer apply.
One more thing to prepare is your Survivor count. Every Strengthen the Flame step asks for a number of rescued Survivors, and only Survivors who have a sheltered bed in your base count toward it. Level 10 needs 16 and Level 11 needs 18, so keep rescuing Survivors and building beds as you explore.
Enshrouded Flame Level 10 Requirements
You upgrade the Flame through the Strengthen the Flame option at any Flame Altar. For Flame Level 10 you need:
- 16 Survivors with sheltered beds
- 60 Sparks, from Flame Shrines and Flame Sanctums
- 1 Broken Guard Of The North Crown, from the Cromville Throne Room
- 15 Gleam Root Dust, milled from Gleam Root, a plant that only grows at night in the Veilwater Basin
- 10 Piscine Ivory Dust, milled from fish parts such as Fish Bones or Fish Teeth
- 30 Drak Blood, a common drop from Drak enemies in the Veilwater Basin
- 10 Shroud Sludge, made by the Alchemist at the Mortar from 5 Shroud Slime, 5 Shroud Gelatin and 5 Pink Mushroom Meat per piece
- 30 Daylily, harvested from plants in the Veilwater Basin or grown from Daylily Seedlings
How to Get the Broken Guard Of The North Crown
The crown is the only unusual item on the Flame Level 10 list. Follow the Crown Of Sorrow quest to Cromville in the north of the Veilwater Basin. Cromville was once the seat of Lord Vorgoth, the Guard of the North, and the crown waits at the end of his Throne Room.
- Travel to Cromville in the northern Veilwater Basin. The main gates are locked, so look for another way in.
- Climb up the tower ramparts instead, using your Grappling Hook and glider where needed, and work your way inside past the locked entrance.
- Where rubble blocks the path, clear it with your pickaxe or explosives and keep heading for the Throne Room.
- Inside the Throne Room, follow the red carpet to the throne and pick up the Broken Guard Of The North Crown. This completes the Crown Of Sorrow quest.
- Return to any Flame Altar and select Strengthen the Flame to reach Flame Level 10.
Keen describes this upgrade as the step you need before entering Cinder’s Cradle. It also raises your Flame Altar limit to 15, so it’s a good moment to place an extra altar close to the northern edge of the Veilwater Basin as a staging point.

Above the lava of Cinder’s Cradle, the Ancients raised a realm of floating islands, and that is where the road to Flame Level 11 leads.
From Cinder’s Cradle to the Sky Islands
After Flame Level 10, continue the main quest Land Of The Sky Islands. It leads you to the Ancient Gate north of the Veilwater Basin and into Cinder’s Cradle, the new biome added with 1.0. According to Keen, it sits between Blackmire and the Veilwater Basin in size and contains 12 new Shroud Roots, so it’s worth exploring properly for the extra skill points.
- Cinder’s Ascent: fight your way to Cinder’s Ascent in the middle of the region. Here you meet Loraine Crim, the Ancient Researcher, the new Survivor who specializes in Ancient knowledge and recipes.
- The six Beacons: her quest Activating The Gate To The Stars asks you to clear six Beacon dungeons and light their Beacons. Players report that the order doesn’t matter.
- The Sky Islands: once all Beacons are active, the teleporter at Cinder’s Ascent takes you up to the floating islands of the Ancients.
- New lockpicks: locked chests and doors on higher tiers now need Archaic Lockpicks, which start appearing in Cinder’s Cradle. The community wiki lists Archaic Shards as their crafting material, so collect them whenever you see them.
Bring your best gear. Cinder’s Cradle introduces a new enemy faction with 14 new enemy types, and the character level cap in 1.0 is now 50, with equipment upgradeable to level 55.
Enshrouded Flame Level 11 Requirements
Flame Level 11 is the final upgrade, and it can only be completed after you beat the main story’s last boss. You need:
- 18 Survivors with sheltered beds
- 20 Sparks
- 10 Celestium Bars, smelted by the Blacksmith in the Blast Furnace (20 Celestium Ore and 40 Coal make a batch of 20 bars)
- 15 Moonstone, found in Cinder’s Cradle where the Ancients left their mark
- 20 Diamond Dust, milled by the Farmer from Diamonds, one Diamond per Diamond Dust
- 15 Ember Carapace, heat-hardened scales from a carapace creature in Cinder’s Cradle
- 1 Vorgoth’s Bound Essence and 1 Vorgoth’s Eye, both from the final boss
Gather the Moonstone, Ember Carapace and Diamonds while you work through the Beacons, so you only need to make the last trip to your altar after the final fight. Celestium Bars take a while to smelt, so start a batch before you head out.
Where to Find Vorgoth
Lord Vorgoth was once the Guard of the North and the oldest son of Queen Pikemead, and in 1.0 the Shroud has turned him into the story’s last and strongest threat. Keen only hints that this champion is hiding high up in the sky, and that matches what players find: you reach Vorgoth by crossing the Sky Islands to the Ancient Citadel high above Cinder’s Cradle, following the Ancient Researcher’s final quest.
Defeating him drops Vorgoth’s Bound Essence and Vorgoth’s Eye. Don’t spend the Bound Essence too quickly: you also need it to craft Vorgoth’s Soulbound armor set, and the Flame Level 11 upgrade asks for one.

The final stretch takes you across the floating islands of the Ancients, so stock up on food and potions before you go.
How to Push Back the Shroud With Flame Altars
This is the big reward of Flame Level 11. Keen’s 1.0 changelog confirms that Flame Altars can now push back the Shroud, which also opens up building spots that used to sit inside it. Here is how it works in practice:
- It works around your altars: the Shroud is pushed back around the Flame Altars you place. It is not a switch that clears the whole map, and the Shroud and the Fell remain in the rest of Embervale.
- Altar limit of 16: unlocking Flame Level 11 raises the maximum number of Flame Altars in your world to 16, so you have one more altar to place in a former Shroud zone.
- Upgrade the altar size: upgrading an altar with Shroud Cores and Shroud Nexus increases the area it covers, up to 160 x 160 x 160 at level 4.
- Your Flame Level stays: the Flame Level is global and can never decrease, even if you deactivate altars to move them.
Can You Push Back the Shroud Before Flame Level 11?
Yes, if you control the world settings. By default, the Shroud pushback needs the final Flame Level 11, but Keen confirms that the required Flame Level can be lowered to any level in the world settings. That is a great option for builders who want a base in a Shroud valley without finishing the story first.
If you play on someone else’s world or a dedicated server, the host or admin decides this setting. If your altar doesn’t clear the Shroud even though you have the right Flame Level, ask them to check the world settings first.
Tips for Reaching Flame Level 11 Faster
- Build beds early: Survivors without a sheltered bed don’t count, so missing beds can keep the upgrade locked even when all materials are ready.
- Farm the Veilwater Basin at night: Gleam Root only grows at night, so collect it together with Daylily and Drak Blood in one trip.
- Use the new fishing system: in 1.0 every fish can be caught in every body of water with the right bait, which makes fish parts for Piscine Ivory Dust easier to gather.
- Clear the Shroud Roots: the 12 Shroud Roots in Cinder’s Cradle give you extra skill points before the final boss.
- Respec if needed: you can reset your skill tree at any Flame Altar for one Rune per spent skill point.
Is Flame Level 11 Worth It?
Absolutely, especially if you love building. Flame Level 10 is a story requirement anyway, and Flame Level 11 turns the Shroud from a hard border into building land with a 16th altar on top. If you only want the pushback for a creative world, lowering the requirement in the world settings gets you there much faster. Still deciding whether to continue your Early Access world?
