HBO’s Harry Potter Season 2 Casts Arthur Weasley, Moaning Myrtle, and Colin Creevey, and the Wait Won’t Be Short
HBO’s slow-motion adaptation of the Wizarding World is already deep into casting its second year at Hogwarts, even though the first hasn’t aired yet. On September 15, the network confirmed three more characters for Season 2’s take on Chamber of Secrets: Arthur Weasley, Moaning Myrtle, and Colin Creevey, the latest names in a casting rollout that has been filling in steadily since Season 2’s early renewal back in May.
Three New Faces for Chamber of Secrets
Rafe Spall, known for Life of Pi, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and the Black Mirror episode White Christmas, will play Arthur Weasley, the Muggle-obsessed head of the Weasley family and father to Ron, Fred, George, Percy, and Ginny. Newcomer Molly Hewitt-Richards takes on Moaning Myrtle, the perpetually weeping ghost who haunts a second-floor Hogwarts bathroom, while Jasper Ambrose has been cast as Colin Creevey, the camera-toting first-year who idolizes Harry from the moment he steps off the train.

Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton return as Harry, Ron, and Hermione for Season 2.
A Sequel Cast That’s Filling Out Fast
These three join a Chamber of Secrets casting wave that has moved quickly since the early renewal. Kit Harington stepped in as Gilderoy Lockhart, the vain new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, after original pick Nicholas Hoult exited in August due to scheduling conflicts, reportedly tied to his return as Lex Luthor in Man of Tomorrow. Billy Barratt was cast as the teenage Tom Riddle, and Lenny Rush landed Dobby, the house-elf who spends most of the book trying to keep Harry away from Hogwarts.
Season 2 also quietly recast Ginny Weasley earlier this month. Bonnie Hill now plays the role after original Season 1 actress Gracie Cochrane departed the production; HBO hasn’t given a public reason for the change. Ginny only appears briefly in Chamber of Secrets itself, but the character is expected to take on a much bigger role in later seasons.

Season 2 production is based at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK, the same site as Season 1.
When Are We Actually Getting This?
Season 1, subtitled and the Philosopher’s Stone, still hasn’t aired: it’s set to premiere on HBO and HBO Max on December 25. Season 2 is expected to start filming this fall at Leavesden, with the young cast returning to set before their first season has even reached an audience. Don’t expect a quick follow-up, though. HBO’s Casey Bloys was asked this week whether the show could go annual and said no, adding only that the network is trying to keep the gap “as compressed as possible.”
Given the visual effects load and the reality of directing child actors through years of physical growth, a wait of more than a year between seasons looks increasingly likely, something HBO now seems willing to say out loud instead of dodge.
