Neagley Reviews Are In, and Prime Video’s Reacher Spinoff Just Landed a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes
Prime Video’s first attempt at spinning Reacher into its own universe premiered on September 16, dropping all eight episodes of Neagley on the same day Reacher wrapped its Season 4 finale. Frances Neagley, Jack Reacher’s old Army buddy and the sharpest member of his former Special Investigations Unit, finally gets her own show, and critics have wasted no time weighing in.

Maria Sten reprises her Reacher role as Frances Neagley, now working as a private investigator in Chicago. When a close friend from her past turns up dead under suspicious circumstances, she puts the investigative skills Reacher taught her in the Army’s 110th Special Investigations Unit to work uncovering what really happened. Greyston Holt, Adeline Rudolph, Jasper Jones, Matthew Del Negro, and Damon Herriman round out the main cast, and Alan Ritchson himself shows up as a guest star to tie the spinoff back to the mothership. Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton co-showrun the series, with Lee Child, Don Granger, Sam Hill, Adam Higgs, and Lisa Kussner also serving as executive producers under Amazon MGM Studios and Paramount Television Studios.

Neagley is sitting at a strong 92 percent on Rotten Tomatoes from 25 critic reviews, with audiences right behind at 85 percent. The consensus among reviewers is that the show works best as a character study rather than a straight Reacher clone. Digital Mafia Talkies’ Pramit Chatterjee put it simply: “Maria Sten was born to play Frances Neagley.” Not every review is unreserved praise, though. TheWrap’s Rafael Motamayor noted that “the show misses something by not having Reacher and the particular over-the-top tone he brings,” trading action-movie spectacle for a more grounded, emotional detective drama.

Is There Going to Be a Neagley Season 2?
Not officially, at least not yet. Amazon has not confirmed a second season, but that hasn’t stopped the cast from already pitching ideas for one. Maria Sten told press she’d like the show to go even further if it gets picked up again: “if we get another season, I want to build on that… make it even bigger.” Co-creator Nicholas Wootton has also described his long-term vision for the series as a Chicago-centric show built around Neagley’s own team, suggesting a roadmap already exists in case Prime Video gives the green light. Given the review scores and Neagley’s built-in connection to one of Prime Video’s biggest franchises, a renewal looks like a matter of when, not if.
