Peacock’s Crystal Lake Drops Its First Trailer, and the Friday the 13th Prequel Finally Has an October Release Date
Peacock and A24 dropped the first full trailer for Crystal Lake on September 13, confirming that the long-delayed Friday the 13th prequel series finally has a premiere date. All eight episodes arrive on Peacock on October 15, telling the origin story of the franchise’s original killer, Pamela Voorhees, years before her son Jason ever picked up a machete.
What Crystal Lake Is About
The series is set in 1971, nine years before the original 1980 film, and follows single mother Pam Voorhees in the aftermath of her young son Jason’s drowning in the town lake. When two strangers arrive at her door digging into her past, a disturbing chain of events unfolds that leaves the people of Crystal Lake wondering just who Pam Voorhees really is, and what pushes her toward the violence the franchise is built on. The trailer leans hard into that dread, with one line of narration warning that “something is in these woods, and all it knows how to do is kill.”
Who’s In It
Linda Cardellini leads the cast as Pam Voorhees, with young Jason played by Callum Vinson. William Catlett appears as Police Chief Levon Brooks and Devin Kessler as his relative Briana Brooks, a journalist digging into Pam’s history. Cameron Scoggins plays local officer Dorf and Gwendolyn Sundstrom plays Grace, rounding out the main cast, alongside recurring guest stars Danielle Kotch, Phoenix Parnevik, Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Christopher Denham, and Nancy Nagrant.

A Long, Complicated Road to the Premiere
Crystal Lake has been in the works for years. Peacock first ordered the series back in October 2022 with Bryan Fuller attached as creator and showrunner alongside A24, but Fuller exited the project in May 2024. Brad Caleb Kane took over as writer, showrunner, and executive producer that August. Kane has described the tone of the finished show as “a paranoid ’70s thriller,” and the trailer’s grainy, 1971-set look backs that up. Victor Miller, who wrote the screenplay for the original 1980 Friday the 13th, is credited as an executive producer on the new series. Miller passed away on September 2, 2026, at age 86, just days before this trailer arrived.

When and Where to Watch
All eight episodes of Crystal Lake premiere October 15 exclusively on Peacock in the US. European viewers won’t have to wait much longer either: Warner Bros. Discovery picked up the series for HBO Max earlier this year, covering Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (minus the UK and Ireland), with a launch promised “later this year.” Since HBO Max is already live in Austria and Germany after its January rollout, that means Gamersuniverse readers should be able to stream Crystal Lake without an extra import subscription once WBD locks in a firm European date.
