The Pitt Season 3: Jalen Thomas Brooks Confirms Mateo’s Return Amid Cast Shake-Up

HBO’s unlikely medical drama hit is bringing back one of its steadiest hands for round three. The Pitt has become one of the most-watched shows on television since its debut, built around Noah Wyle’s Dr. Michael Robinavitch and the sprawling ensemble working alongside him in a chaotic Pittsburgh emergency room. Now, as production details for Season 3 continue to trickle out, one of that ensemble’s most grounded performers has confirmed he will be back on shift.

Jalen Thomas Brooks Confirms His Return as Mateo

Speaking with Collider’s Steve Weintraub at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival, Jalen Thomas Brooks confirmed that his character, charge nurse Mateo Diaz, is coming back for The Pitt Season 3. Asked directly whether he would be back, Brooks kept plot details close to the vest but left no doubt about his own involvement: “I will be there. I will be in Season 3.” He went on to praise the show’s creative team for continuing to tell meaningful stories, even as the cast around him keeps shifting from year to year.

A Familiar ER With a Few Empty Chairs

Brooks’s confirmation lands alongside cast changes that have been unfolding for months rather than breaking this week. Supriya Ganesh will not reprise her role as Dr. Samira Mohan in Season 3, a departure HBO confirmed earlier this year, while Shabana Azeez’s Victoria Javadi steps into a smaller presence in the ER after her character’s arc shifted away from the hospital floor. Noah Wyle’s Dr. Robby remains the show’s anchor, and the rest of the core ensemble, including Brooks’s Mateo, is expected to fill out a roster that looks noticeably different from the one audiences left behind at the end of Season 2.

A One-Year Turnaround, Again

Part of what makes The Pitt unusual is its release schedule. Season 1 arrived on HBO Max in January 2025, and Season 2 followed almost exactly a year later, a pace Brooks compared to old school network procedurals that keep filming one season while the previous one is still airing. HBO has already confirmed Season 3 will return on a similar yearly rhythm, with new episodes still being shot as earlier ones are edited and finished. An exact premiere date has not been announced, but if the pattern holds, Season 3 should land in a similar January window.
