Soulframe’s Open Preludes Alpha Opens to Everyone on November 6 With the Verse of the Veilands Update
Digital Extremes used its October Devstream to announce that Soulframe, the fantasy action RPG from the makers of Warframe, is dropping its invite-only requirement for good. Starting Friday, November 6, the game’s early Alpha playtest, called Soulframe Open Preludes, will be free to download and open to every PC player, no sign-up queue required.
Three Years of Invite-Only Testing Comes to an End
Soulframe has run as a closed, invite-only Alpha since its original reveal, with Digital Extremes slowly growing the player base through waves of access over roughly three years. That changes on November 6, when Soulframe Open Preludes becomes available to download for free from the official Soulframe website for Windows PC, letting newcomers create an envoy, explore the island of Midrath, and team up with up to four other players without ever needing an invite.
Creative Director Geoff Crookes framed the decision as a natural next step for a project that has leaned on its community from the start. “It feels a little scary to finally open the gates like this,” Crookes said, adding that the team wants as much player feedback as possible on the systems it has built so far.
Verse of the Veilands Adds Wolf Mounts and a New Pact
The wider opening arrives alongside Verse of the Veilands, the next Soulframe Preludes update, expected later in November. After completing the Tormented Stag Fable, players will encounter Veilands, a new environmental world progression system that tracks how the invading Ode forces have corrupted different zones of Midrath as envoys work to cleanse them.
The update’s biggest addition is a long-awaited mount: after raising a wolf pup and purifying two Veilands regions, players can brew it a Bairnday Biscuit to grow it into a full Omen Wolf mount, with Digital Extremes promising further updates to the feature over time. Verse of the Veilands also introduces a new Pact called Ode Shrike, which turns the invading Ode’s own trapping tools against them with deployable spike traps, enemy-lifting balloon darts, damage-linking bola chains, and an evasive throwing bomb.
Bita’s Eve Returns for the Season

Soulframe’s Halloween-season event, Bita’s Eve, returns alongside the Verse of the Veilands update with a new mini-boss and limited-time rewards.
Verse of the Veilands also brings back the seasonal Bita’s Eve event, sending players to seek out patches of Wintersquash and face down a new headless horserider mini-boss named Veltruska for limited-time rewards, including a special fish called Sunken Terror. Digital Extremes says the patch notes for the full update will go live closer to its release, with the plan being to have it out before the end of November.
Soulframe remains free to play with no fixed release date beyond the November 6 Open Preludes launch, though it’s already wishlistable on Steam for players who want updates as it works toward a wider PC launch.

My experience with similar early access cycles suggests that the initial server stability can vary significantly based on the specific regional rollout.
