Deadlock Mid-Boss Guide: New Rejuvenator Crystals, Bounty and Respawn After the Halloween Update
Valve’s Halloween 2026 update did more than put pumpkins on the streets of the Cursed Apple. It also reworked one of the most important objectives on the map. The Deadlock Mid-Boss now has more health, a smaller soul bounty and, most importantly, a completely new Rejuvenator drop: three crystals spread around the pit instead of one in the center. This Deadlock Mid-Boss guide explains where to find it, what changed on October 30, how the new Rejuvenator crystals work, what your team gets for the kill and how to take or steal it.
What Is the Mid-Boss in Deadlock?
The Mid-Boss is a powerful neutral boss that lives in an underground pit in the center of the map. Killing it gives the whole team souls and permanent buffs, and it drops Rejuvenators that let your teammates revive on the spot after dying.
Valve’s own patch notes call it the Mid-Boss, while the game’s HUD and the City Never Sleeps update page write Midboss. Either way, it is the same objective. According to the community Deadlock wiki, the Mid-Boss is already spawned when a match begins, waiting in the sewers below the middle of the map. Its location is marked with a golden Rejuvenator symbol on the minimap, and the entrances to its pit carry the same symbol.
The Mid-Boss stays passive until a hero steps into its pit. It then fires a beam at the closest hero inside. It can only be damaged by heroes who are in the pit themselves, so you can’t safely shoot it from the edge. The wiki also notes that a constantly regenerating shield absorbs part of the incoming damage every second, which is why a single hero with low damage struggles to make progress.
Every Deadlock Mid-Boss Change in the Halloween Update
The Halloween 2026 + Gameplay Update from October 30, 2026, made these changes to the Mid-Boss, according to Valve’s official patch notes:
- Bigger arena: The terrain around the Mid-Boss was adjusted. The area is a little bigger and has more cover.
- More health: Its health and its health gained per minute were both increased by 20%.
- Weaker shredding: Resistance reductions are now only 50% as effective against the Mid-Boss.
- Later roar: The Mid-Boss now roars at 25% health instead of 50%, so the enemy team gets the warning much later.
- Smaller bounty: The soul bounty was cut from 3000 (+50 per minute) to 1500 (+25 per minute).
- Three Rejuvenator crystals: The Rejuvenator now drops as three crystals placed evenly around the pit at random positions, instead of one crystal in the center.
- One hit per crystal: Each crystal breaks with one heavy melee and gives the team one Rejuvenator. The total per Mid-Boss kill is still three.
- Full heal on every crystal: Breaking any crystal now fully heals you. Before, only the first hit did.
- Crystal bounty: The player who breaks a crystal now gets a bounty of 500 souls (+9 per minute).
- Slower drop: The crystals now take 7.5 seconds to drop instead of 6.
- Baba change: The heavy melee stomp of Baba’s Granny Long Legs now only hits the closest Rejuvenator in range.

Since City Never Sleeps, the topbar shows a timer for the Midboss respawn.
How the New Rejuvenator Crystals Work
The Rejuvenator is the real reason to take the Mid-Boss. Here is how the new three-crystal system plays out after the kill:
- Wait for the drop. After the Mid-Boss dies, three crystals descend around the pit over 7.5 seconds. According to the wiki, they can’t be claimed until they have fully landed.
- Spread out. Because the crystals now land at random spots around the pit, one hero can no longer stand in the center and grab everything. Send players to different crystals.
- Heavy melee each crystal. One heavy melee breaks a crystal and adds one Rejuvenator credit for your whole team. The hero who breaks it is fully healed and gets the 500 soul bounty.
- Use the credits. According to the wiki, a Rejuvenator credit lets a teammate revive at the spot where they died after three seconds with full health. Each player can only use one credit, and the buff expires after three minutes or once all credits are used.
Crucially, the crystals don’t belong to the team that killed the Mid-Boss. According to the wiki, either team can claim them with a heavy melee. That makes the moments after the kill just as dangerous as the fight itself.
What Killing the Mid-Boss Gives Your Team
- Souls: A bounty of 1500 souls, growing by 25 per minute, after the Halloween update.
- Permanent buffs: According to the wiki, every player on the killing team gets two permanent buffs. These are small stat boosts, such as weapon damage, fire rate or bonus health, that last for the rest of the match.
- Up to three Rejuvenators: One per crystal, as long as your team breaks them before the enemy does.
- Crystal bounties and heals: 500 souls (+9 per minute) and a full heal for each hero who breaks a crystal.
The halved bounty means the kill itself is worth fewer souls than before, while each crystal is now worth fighting over individually. At base values, three crystals at 500 souls each add up to the same amount as the new kill bounty.

Deadlock tracks your permanent buffs over the course of a match.
When Does the Mid-Boss Respawn?
You don’t need to track the timer in your head. Since the City Never Sleeps update, the topbar shows a timer for the Midboss respawn, and you can also see when it returns while you are near its spawn area. According to the wiki, the Mid-Boss comes back seven minutes after its first death, six minutes after its second and five minutes after every death after that. A roar and an announcement tell both teams when it is back.
Deadlock Mid-Boss Tips: How to Take It and How to Steal It
The changes are only a day old, so these tips are our own recommendations based on the new rules rather than an established meta:
- Bring more heroes than before. With 20% more health and weaker resistance shredding, the Mid-Boss takes longer to kill. Starting it with two heroes is riskier than it used to be.
- Don’t rely on the roar. The warning now comes at 25% health. If you are defending, watch the minimap and the enemy team’s positions instead of waiting for the announcement.
- Use the new cover. The bigger arena has more cover, which helps both the team taking the Mid-Boss and the team trying to contest it.
- Assign crystals. Before the Mid-Boss dies, agree on who goes for which crystal. With 7.5 seconds of drop time, the team that is already in position wins the race.
- Break crystals to heal. Every crystal now gives a full heal. A low-health hero should go for a crystal first instead of retreating.
- Steal what you can. If the enemy takes the Mid-Boss, you don’t need all three crystals. Even one stolen crystal denies them a Rejuvenator and gives you a heal and 500 souls.
- Push right after. Rejuvenator credits only last three minutes. Use them to push a lane or a Walker while your team can revive on the spot.
Deadlock Mid-Boss: Our Verdict
The Halloween update turns the Mid-Boss from a single grab in the center of the pit into a three-way scramble. The kill pays fewer souls, but every crystal is now worth a full heal and its own bounty, so coordination after the kill matters more than ever. Bring numbers, assign crystals and never assume the Rejuvenators are safe just because you landed the last hit. Want to learn more about the map?
