VisionQuest’s Trailer Has Vision Declare He’s ‘Not a Hero Anymore,’ Fueling MCU Reboot Theories Ahead of Its October 14 Premiere
Marvel’s VisionQuest is still eight days from its October 14 premiere on Disney+, but its marketing has already zeroed in on one line that has fans buzzing. In the show’s trailers, Paul Bettany’s Vision flatly states, “I was an Avenger, but I’m not a hero anymore.” It’s a small piece of dialogue, but combined with a persistent insider rumor about a full MCU timeline reset after Avengers: Secret Wars, it’s turned VisionQuest’s rollout into one of the more closely parsed Marvel marketing pushes of the year.
The Final Chapter of the WandaVision Trilogy
VisionQuest runs eight episodes, releasing weekly on Wednesdays starting October 14, and is widely described in press coverage as the closing chapter of a trilogy that began with WandaVision and continued through Agatha All Along. The series picks up White Vision’s search for identity after he flew off at the end of WandaVision carrying a copy of the original Vision’s memories without having lived them. James Spader returns as Ultron, in both robotic and human form, marking his first MCU appearance since Avengers: Age of Ultron over a decade ago. Ruaridh Mollica plays Tommy Maximoff, Wanda’s son and the Young Avenger known as Speed, alongside T’Nia Miller as Jocasta, James D’Arcy as J.A.R.V.I.S., Orla Brady as F.R.I.D.A.Y., Emily Hampshire as E.D.I.T.H. and Todd Stashwick as Paladin.

Vision confronts a rebuilt version of his own memories inside his own mind in VisionQuest’s second trailer.
One Line, a Lot of Theories
The “not a hero anymore” line has become the center of a specific fan theory: that VisionQuest is laying groundwork for a wider MCU reboot after Secret Wars, with veteran Avengers like Vision stepping away from active duty as the franchise resets around a new roster. That idea traces back to an industry insider rather than any Marvel Studios announcement, and nothing from Marvel has confirmed a reboot is actually happening. Still, the show’s framing, built around Vision no longer identifying with the Avenger he used to be, gives the rumor fresh fuel right as the series heads into its premiere window.
Bettany Is Hinting There’s More to Come
Paul Bettany hasn’t confirmed where Vision lands by the finale, but he’s been teasing that it matters. Talking to SFX Magazine, he said the ending is “a really exciting springboard for what Vision might do in the future,” suggesting the character’s story doesn’t close out with VisionQuest’s final episode. He’s also fed Secret Wars speculation directly, telling The Telegraph late last year, “I think I’ve got some Avengers duties next year,” a comment that lines up with Secret Wars’ expected production window. Between the trailer’s identity-crisis framing and Bettany’s own comments, VisionQuest looks built to leave Vision’s future as an open question rather than a resolved one.
