Xbox’s Disc-to-Digital Program Is Now Rolling Out to Everyone, Not Just Insiders

Xbox’s Disc-to-Digital program just graduated out of testing. Back on August 26, 2026, Microsoft opened the feature to Xbox Insiders only, letting players convert eligible physical Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S discs into permanent digital entitlements. Starting September 29, that same feature is rolling out to every Xbox player, Insider or not, built around the same simple idea: insert a supported disc, and the console grants a digital license to go with it.

Xbox says its Disc-to-Digital feature now works for every player, not just those enrolled in the Xbox Insider Program.

What’s New Since the Insider Beta

Microsoft accompanied the wider rollout with a short message to players, saying “Your discs just got a digital upgrade today!” The mechanics haven’t changed from the original Insider test, but the eligible games list keeps growing. Sega and Ubisoft titles have reportedly joined the program’s publisher roster since August, adding to the list of studios willing to let their disc-based catalog convert automatically.

What’s Still Excluded

Not every disc qualifies. Original Xbox and Xbox 360 discs remain outside the program entirely, and Square Enix’s catalog is reportedly still missing from the eligible list even as other publishers sign on. The number of supported titles varies depending on who’s counting, Kotaku puts the eligible list at over 1,400 games, while other community-run trackers report a higher and still-growing count, but either way it’s a fraction of what’s sitting on Xbox players’ shelves.

The catch that hasn’t changed since August is what happens to the physical disc afterward. Each entitlement is revocable and tied to whoever currently holds the disc, so losing it, permanently lending it out, or selling it can hand the digital license to someone else. It’s a trade worth making for most collectors, since the disc keeps working exactly as before while also unlocking the modern conveniences of a digital copy.

Microsoft’s original pitch for Disc-to-Digital was giving physical collectors a bridge into the digital era without asking them to give anything up, and opening that door to every Xbox owner rather than just a testing group is the clearest sign yet that the feature is here to stay.
