Blade Runner 2099 Returns at New York Comic-Con With a New Trailer Teasing a ‘Cure for All Replicants’

Prime Video brought a new trailer for Blade Runner 2099 to New York Comic-Con on Saturday, October 10, following the project’s first teaser back at San Diego Comic-Con in July. The fresh footage digs deeper into the uneasy partnership between Hunter Schafer’s Cora and Michelle Yeoh’s Olwen, and outlets covering the panel are already running headlines about the pair’s search for a “cure for all replicants.”

A World Reborn, Just Not for Humanity

Set roughly 50 years after Blade Runner 2049, the series imagines a Los Angeles that has been reborn, only not by humanity. Replicants won their war against humans and now effectively rule the city, while rogue humans live as fugitives hunted by replicant Blade Runners. Schafer plays Cora, a human who adopts the identity of a Blade Runner in a final bid to stop running, and she’s forced to team up with Yeoh’s Olwen, a replicant in her last stretch of life. Replicants in this era outlive the four-year Nexus-6 lifespan, but they still know exactly when their time is up, and the two women end up hunting a runaway who holds a truth that could collapse their fragile city. In the franchise’s original teaser over the summer, Olwen made her stance on the shifting balance of power clear in just four words: “It’s our time now.”

Who’s In the Cast

Schafer and Yeoh lead the series alongside Dimitri Abold and Lewis Gribben, with Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, Matthew Needham, Tom Burke, and Maurizio Lombardi rounding out the recurring cast. Silka Luisa created the show and serves as showrunner, continuing the franchise’s “more human than human” throughline with a story that leans as much on identity and mortality as it does on action. Ridley Scott, who directed the original 1982 film and produced Blade Runner 2049, is an executive producer, while Jonathan van Tulleken directed the first two episodes and is also credited as an EP.

When You Can Watch It

All eight episodes of Blade Runner 2099 arrive on Prime Video on November 25, as a full binge release in more than 240 countries and territories. Prime members looking to catch up beforehand can also rent or buy the original Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049 directly on the service ahead of the premiere.
