Fallout Season 3 Wraps Filming, and Walton Goggins Isn’t Ready to Say Goodbye to the Ghoul

Fallout Season 3 officially wraps filming, and Walton Goggins is already getting sentimental about it. The actor, who plays Cooper Howard, also known as The Ghoul, shared an Instagram video of himself driving down a California highway after taking off his prosthetics for the last time this season, calling it a road and a song he wished would never end.

Production on the Prime Video hit began on June 15 in Los Angeles, and Goggins’ post was quickly followed by one from his longtime makeup artist Jake Garber, who confirmed The Ghoul’s scenes were done for the season. Some fans read Goggins’ wording as a hint that Fallout could be winding down, but nothing has been confirmed either way, and it may simply mean he is done with this particular season’s transformation routine.

A Wistful Goodbye on the Highway

Goggins’ caption leaned more wistful than final, with the actor writing that “I wish this road or this song would never end” as he said goodbye to California for now. Fallout star Kyle MacLachlan, who plays Hank MacLean, had already hinted at an October wrap during a Barnes & Noble event earlier in the month, estimating a Season 3 return sometime around May or June of 2027, though Prime Video has not announced an official release date yet.

A Bigger Cast for the Wasteland

Season 3 brings back the core of the show, with Ella Purnell as Lucy MacLean, Aaron Moten as Maximus, Kyle MacLachlan as Hank MacLean, Moisés Arias as Norm MacLean and Frances Turner as Barb Howard all returning, alongside Walton Goggins as The Ghoul. Annabel O’Hagan and Dave Register, who played Steph and Chet, have both been promoted to series regulars for the new season.

Joining them are four notable new faces: Aaron Paul, best known for his Emmy-winning turn as Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad, Emily Mortimer, Manny Jacinto of The Acolyte and Freakier Friday, and Thomasin McKenzie of Eileen and Jojo Rabbit. Amazon MGM Studios has not revealed who any of them will be playing, keeping their roles as much of a mystery as everything else about the new season’s plot.

Where Fallout Goes From Here

Fallout was renewed for a third season back in May 2025, months ahead of Season 2’s December premiere, all but guaranteeing the show would not face a long gap between seasons. According to Amazon, the first two seasons have drawn more than 100 million viewers worldwide and rank among the most-watched seasons in Prime Video’s history. If the post-production timeline for Season 3 mirrors Season 2, which wrapped in May 2025 and premiered that December, a mid-2027 release lines up with what MacLachlan has suggested.

  • Season 1: filmed June 2022 to March 2023, premiered April 2024
  • Season 2: filmed December 2024 to May 2025, premiered December 2025
  • Season 3: filmed June 2026 to October 2026, release date to be announced
