Rockstar Reveals GTA 6’s Relationship System: A Four-Point Scale Jason and Lucia Build Through Beach Walks and Gym Sessions
Rockstar’s cover feature with Edge magazine, published this Thursday, October 29, has already detailed Grand Theft Auto VI’s NPC systems and its sprawling map. The same deep dive also lays out the GTA 6 relationship system, or how Jason and Lucia’s relationship actually works in the finished game, giving players a concrete way to track the bond between the game’s two protagonists as they play through Leonida together.
A Four-Point Scale for Jason and Lucia’s Bond
According to the Edge feature, Jason and Lucia’s closeness is tracked on a four-point scale that shifts depending on how players treat the relationship during the story. Since players can switch between the pair at will, showing up for the other half of the couple becomes part of ordinary play rather than a separate menu or minigame bolted onto the main campaign.
Everyday activities push the meter in either direction. Taking a walk along the beach, working out together at the gym, and simply driving around while the other scrolls through their phone are all described as ways to raise the couple’s rating, building closeness out of small moments rather than one big romance arc.

Leonida’s beaches, gyms, and streets double as the backdrop for Jason and Lucia’s relationship, with everyday activities doing most of the work in Grand Theft Auto VI.
Narrative Weight, Without Taking Over the Story
Edge notes that the relationship is more involved than early trailers suggested, with player choices carrying real narrative consequences. Rockstar is reportedly keeping that influence within a narrow scope rather than letting it reshape the entire campaign, so the system adds texture to Jason and Lucia’s partnership without turning Grand Theft Auto VI into a dating sim.
The relationship meter adds further depth to the same Edge feature, which also detailed Grand Theft Auto VI’s roughly 600,000 individually animated NPCs and a Leonida map that nearly matches the combined size of Rockstar’s last three releases.
