God of War Laufey Reveals the Serpent Bow and Opens Pre-Orders September 29

Santa Monica Studio revealed new details about God of War Laufey on September 28, giving players their first proper look at Faye’s new weapon, the Serpent Bow, alongside pre-order editions ahead of the game’s February 16, 2027 release on PlayStation 5.

The Serpent Bow: Faye’s New Weapon in the Everywhen

Faye, voiced by Deborah Ann Woll, wields the Serpent Bow alongside a blade as she fights to survive the Everywhen, the afterlife realm she wakes up in after her death at the start of God of War (2018). According to Santa Monica Studio, the weapon can “go from dormant to notched at lightning speed”, letting Faye weave arrow strikes into her melee combos on the fly.

The Serpent Bow splits into two stances. A full pull of the aim trigger switches to a precision mode that can charge up to five arrows at once and target specific enemy body parts to hinder their movement or attacks, while a half pull activates a mobile hip-fire stance built for close-range volleys. Santa Monica Studio also detailed multiple arrow types, including rapid-fire, explosive, and multi-target variants, plus interchangeable Scales that change the bow’s appearance and combat perks.

Pre-Order Editions and Bonuses

Pre-orders for God of War Laufey open on September 29 at 10 AM local time. The Standard Edition includes the Last Wish Armor Set, the Phranque Golden Leaves cosmetic appearance, and an in-game resource pack. The Digital Deluxe Edition adds a full Dark Alchemy set:

  • Dark Alchemy Armor Set
  • Dark Alchemy Blade
  • Dark Alchemy Bow Scales
  • Dark Alchemy Catalyst
  • In-game resource pack
  • Digital mini artbook
  • Official God of War Laufey digital soundtrack

A Story Built Around Faye

God of War Laufey centers entirely on Faye rather than Kratos or Atreus, following her as she navigates the Everywhen, a realm where magic has returned and figures from different mythologies converge. It is a notable creative swing for the series, and one Santa Monica Studio’s team has been eager to defend even outside the game itself, including when The Last of Us director Bruce Straley walked back comments calling AAA games “boring” with a direct apology to the Laufey team earlier this month.
