Mass Effect Composer Sam Hulick Is Re-Scoring the Leaked Mass Effect 5 Trailer for N7 Day

More music tied to the cancelled Mass Effect 5 keeps surfacing in the aftermath of BioWare’s shutdown. A day after composer Austin Wintory shared nearly 20 minutes of unused score from his own pitch for the game, Mass Effect trilogy composer Sam Hulick has revealed he is working on his own tribute: a re-scored version of the recently leaked Mass Effect: Universe trailer, which he hopes to finish in time for N7 Day on November 7.

A Trilogy Veteran Returns to the Material

Hulick composed music across all three entries in the original Mass Effect trilogy, including the acclaimed “An End Once and For All,” co-written with Clint Mansell for Mass Effect 3. After the leaked Mass Effect: Universe trailer surfaced online, Hulick began reworking its temporary music with his own composition, first previewing the project on Patreon before confirming his plans publicly on Bluesky.

“I want it to properly represent my musical vision for MEU.”

Hulick says the project is a personal one, made for closure rather than for any commercial release.

Racing the Clock for N7 Day

Hulick said the timeline is tight given his other work, including pitching for a new game, but that he does not want to rush the piece at the expense of its quality. N7 Day, the long-running Mass Effect fan holiday observed every November 7, falls on a Saturday this year, and Hulick has said he will share the finished re-score if he can get it ready in time.

Part of a Wider Wave of Tributes

Hulick’s project follows a string of grief and advocacy from the Mass Effect music community since EA’s shutdown of BioWare. He has voiced support for the Save Mass Effect petition, while also stressing that licensing the IP alone would not undo the job losses the closure caused for the people who worked on it. His planned re-score adds to a growing list of unofficial material, from leaked story details to abandoned music pitches, keeping the spirit of the cancelled project alive even as its future remains uncertain.
