Cyberpunk 2077 Console Mods: How to Install Mods on PS5 and Xbox in Update 2.5

Cyberpunk 2077’s Edgerunners 2 Update (2.5) brought dual-wielding, new quests and Glamdocs to Night City, but for console players one feature stands out: for the first time, you can download player-made mods on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. If you want to know how Cyberpunk 2077 console mods work, how to install them, which mods show up on consoles and whether mods will cost you your Trophies and Achievements, this guide walks you through everything step by step. It reflects Update 2.5 (released October 22, 2026) and CD Projekt Red’s official mod support FAQ.

What Is Cross-Platform Mod Support in Cyberpunk 2077?

Cross-Platform Mod Support is an in-game Mods menu powered by mod.io. CD Projekt Red calls it a first step into cross-platform modding that lets you browse and install a selection of player-created mods directly from the game. According to the official Update 2.5 patch notes, a few key facts are worth knowing before you start:

  • Platforms: the feature is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. Update 2.5 went live on October 22 everywhere except Switch 2 and the Mac App Store version, which get it in the following days.
  • It’s a curated selection: the console catalog starts with a selection of mods, and CD Projekt Red says more mods will become available over time.
  • Accounts are required: you need a CD PROJEKT RED account connected to mod.io, and you have to accept mod.io’s and CD Projekt Red’s terms, including the Fan Content Guidelines.

How to Install Mods in Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5 and Xbox

The process is the same on every platform and only takes a few minutes. Make sure you’re online, because new mods can’t be installed while you’re offline.

  1. Update Cyberpunk 2077 to version 2.5 or newer and launch the game.
  2. Select Mods in the main menu.
  3. Log in with your CD PROJEKT RED account.
  4. Connect the account to mod.io and accept the terms.
  5. Browse the catalog, open a mod you like and select Subscribe.
  6. Restart the game. New mods only load after a restart.
  7. Open the Installed section of the Mods menu and check that the mod appears on the list and its checkbox is selected.

If a mod doesn’t seem to do anything, check step 7 first. A mod that is installed but unticked won’t load. According to CD Projekt Red, available mod updates should install automatically when you launch the game, which matters because outdated mods are a common cause of problems after a game update.

Which Cyberpunk 2077 Mods Work on Consoles?

Not every mod you know from PC will show up on your PS5 or Xbox. The in-game browser only offers mods that are supported on your platform. To check whether a mod works on consoles, open its details page and look for the “Available on consoles” tag.

That also explains why many famous PC mods are missing. Mods from sites like Nexus Mods aren’t part of the console catalog, and a lot of popular PC mods depend on PC tools such as Cyber Engine Tweaks or RED4ext, which you can’t install on a PS5 or Xbox. Since the catalog is meant to grow, it’s worth checking back regularly if a mod you want isn’t there yet.

Do Mods Disable Trophies and Achievements in Cyberpunk 2077?

On consoles, yes. CD Projekt Red confirms that Trophies and Achievements are disabled on modded save files on consoles. Any save created while mods were enabled counts as a modded save. With Update 2.5, modded saves are marked with a mod.io cog icon in the Load Game menu, and saves are now grouped by playthrough, which makes it easier to keep a clean run separate.

CD Projekt Red’s FAQ only describes this restriction for consoles. If you’re going for the Platinum Trophy or the full Achievement list, follow these simple rules:

  • Keep a separate, unmodded playthrough for Trophies and Achievements.
  • Make a manual save with mods turned off before you start experimenting.
  • Check the save list for the cog icon before you continue a playthrough you care about.

Mods, Saves and Cross Progression: What You Need to Know

Cyberpunk 2077 supports Cross Progression through your CD PROJEKT RED account, so you can continue a save on another platform. Mods add a few rules to that, according to CD Projekt Red’s support page:

  • Same mods on both platforms: to move a modded save to another platform, you need the same set of mods enabled on both. If a mod is missing or incompatible on the target platform, the save may not load correctly. If you mod on PC and continue on console, stick to mods that are also available on consoles.
  • Subscriptions sync automatically: mods you subscribe to on one platform appear on any other platform where you log in with the same CD PROJEKT RED account. Mods that aren’t supported on consoles are simply ignored there.
  • Offline play: you can load a modded save offline as long as the mods it needs are already installed. You can’t install new mods offline, so a modded save with missing mods won’t load until you reconnect.

To set up Cross Progression, open the Load Game menu, press the Cross Progression button shown in the bottom left corner and connect your CD PROJEKT RED account. Once connected, it’s enabled by default, and you can turn it on or off under Settings, Gameplay, Enable cross-platform Saves. New saves are uploaded automatically and marked with a cloud icon. On the second platform, select My Rewards, connect the same CD PROJEKT RED account, and your uploaded saves appear in the Load Game menu.

Cyberpunk 2077 Mods on PC: mod.io vs. Nexus Mods

PC players get the same in-game Mods menu, but they can still install third-party mods outside of it, for example from Nexus Mods. CD Projekt Red’s support pages refer to these as mods “installed outside of the game” and recommend a clean install of the game if third-party mods cause problems.

Big updates often break PC mods that hook deep into the game’s code. Right after Update 2.5 went live, an early bug report on the RED4ext project said that RED4ext-based plugins were crashing the game until they were removed. If your PC mod setup stops working, check each mod’s page for a version made for 2.5 before you load an important save.

On PC, third-party mods still work alongside the new in-game Mods menu, but script-heavy mods often need an update after a patch.

Tips for Modding Cyberpunk 2077 Safely

  • Start small: subscribe to one or two mods at a time and restart, so you know which one causes a problem if something breaks.
  • Don’t change quest mods mid-playthrough: CD Projekt Red advises against installing mods that alter quest structure in the middle of a playthrough.
  • Troubleshoot by disabling: if the game crashes, a quest stops progressing or UI elements go missing, disable or unsubscribe your mods in the Mods menu and test again. Keep in mind that mod effects can be stored in your save, so you may need to load a save from before you used mods.
  • Report problems in the right place: CD Projekt Red can’t fix issues caused by player-created mods. Leave a comment on the mod’s page for the creator, or use the Report button in the Mods menu for problematic content.

Final Thoughts

Cyberpunk 2077 console mods are a great excuse to return to Night City on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S after the Edgerunners 2 Update. Log in with your CD PROJEKT RED account, connect mod.io, subscribe, restart and tick the checkbox in the Installed list, and you’re ready. Just remember that modded console saves don’t earn Trophies or Achievements, and that Cross Progression needs the same mods on both platforms. Already modding The Witcher 3 too?
