Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Ending Explained: Who Survives and Where It Fits in the 2077 Timeline

Spoiler warning: This article contains major spoilers for the entire season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, including the ending of Episode 10. If you have not finished the season yet, bookmark this page and come back once you have.

Night City got its second Edgerunners story, and it did not end the way most of us braced for. All ten episodes of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 have been streaming on Netflix since October 20, 2026 (9:00 AM CEST), and after a season of chrome, revenge and corporate cover-ups, the finale leaves fans with one big question: who actually makes it out alive? Below, we break down the Edgerunners 2 ending step by step, explain who survives and who dies, go through the biggest open questions and answer where Season 2 fits in the Cyberpunk 2077 timeline. We stick to what happens on screen and what has been officially confirmed, and anything that is our own theory is clearly marked as speculation.

If you want a refresher on the setup, the creators and the new cast first, our Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 guide covers everything that was known before launch, and our Episode 1 review breaks down the premiere.

A Quick Recap: Capri, D. and Talia

Edgerunners 2 is a standalone story with an all-new cast. Weak Kingsley, once the feared edgerunner known as “King,” loses his crew and his chrome after a cyberpsychotic breakdown during a job against Arasaka. Roman Carax, a young cinephile who films real life in a city obsessed with braindance, catches that breakdown on camera. D. is a Snake Nation netrunner hunting whoever wiped out his clan, and Talia, the chrome-obsessed daughter of Kang Tao executive Kiril and Weak’s old flame Avida, has thrown herself into the world of Maelstrom.

At the center of it all is Capri, an experimental AI construct developed in secret by Arasaka. Capri needs a human host, and over the course of the season it ends up split between two of them: one half stays connected to D., while the other half is implanted in Talia. Kang Tao, through Kiril, wants Capri for itself, Arasaka and Militech want it back, and by Episode 10, everyone is converging on the same girl.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Ending Explained

Talia Hunts Kiril
The finale opens with Talia, now effectively one with Capri, chasing her father Kiril through the streets of Night City. Kang Tao soldiers manage to pin her down for a moment, but Capri’s power lets her pull metal around herself like a shield. D., who no longer cares about his revenge against Arasaka and simply wants to be reunited with Capri, attacks Talia to take back the other half of the construct, but she gets away.

The Urn That Saves Weak
When Talia corners Kiril again, Weak arrives and tries to be the one who kills him. Talia turns on Weak instead, and Kang Tao’s soldiers open fire on him. He survives because the urn carrying Avida’s ashes takes the hit, a fittingly bittersweet moment for a man who has spent the whole season trying to make things right for her.

Night City shows no mercy in the final episode of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.

Airstrike in the Badlands
Kang Tao decides to clean up its own mess. The corporation lures Talia out of the city into the Badlands and calls in an airstrike. Kyoko, the former Arasaka scientist behind Capri, tries to counter it with an enormously powerful EMP device and warns D. and Roman to stay well clear. Then the EMP goes off and the missiles hit. Talia and D. survive the devastation. Kiril and Kyoko do not.

D. Reunites With Capri
In the aftermath, D. pulls the chip from Talia’s head and merges Capri back into one whole. Arasaka and Militech forces are already closing in on the site, and D. heads out to meet them. On the way, he thinks about David Martinez, the Night City legend from Season 1, and wonders what went through his mind in his final moments. With Capri at full power, D. tears through the first wave of soldiers with ease. Then Capri points him toward a distant light in the sky, which could be a star or possibly a satellite, and D. launches himself toward it after one last smile for Roman’s camera. The show never tells us where he lands, or whether he survives the trip.

Back in Night City
The closing scenes are surprisingly quiet. Talia survives, but she has to be stripped of her chrome. Weak takes her to a rehab clinic, and before she leaves, she tells Roman how talented he is as a filmmaker and promises they will see each other again. Weak says he wants to live. In the final shot, Roman runs off, excited to film again, and the camera pans up to a twinkling star.

Who Survives Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2?

Unlike the first season, which famously killed off almost its entire crew, Edgerunners 2 lets most of its main cast walk away. Here’s where everyone stands at the end of Episode 10:

  • Weak Kingsley: Survives. The urn with Avida’s ashes stops the bullets, and he ends the season taking care of Talia, choosing to live instead of chasing a glorious end.
  • Talia: Survives the Badlands airstrike, but loses her chrome and heads to a rehab clinic with Weak.
  • Roman Carax: Survives and gets the final shot of the season, running off with his camera.
  • D.: Survives the EMP and the airstrike, but his fate after flying off with Capri is deliberately left open.
  • Kiril: Dies in the Badlands. His death is particularly gruesome, with part of his face crushed under a vehicle.
  • Kyoko: Dies in the Badlands. She sets off the EMP, is fatally hit by falling debris and lives just long enough to warn D. that Arasaka and Militech are coming.
  • Avida: Already dead before the finale. Her ashes are what save Weak’s life.

For once, an Edgerunners crew mostly makes it out of Night City’s chaos alive.

Is D. Dead at the End of Edgerunners 2?

Officially, nobody knows yet. The finale shows D. alive after the Badlands battle and flying toward the light Capri chose, and then it cuts away. Showrunner Bartosz Sztybor has said that he knows what happens to the characters after Season 2, but he is not sharing it, so for now, D.’s fate is intentionally ambiguous.

Speculation: Here at Gamersuniverse, we read D.’s final smile into Roman’s camera as a goodbye. Throughout the season, D. has made it clear that he knows living with Capri comes at a price, and the way the show has him reflect on David Martinez right before his last stand feels like a deliberate echo of Season 1. Whether that means D. is dead, trapped somewhere in orbit or on his way to a new life with Capri is something only CD PROJEKT RED can answer.

The Biggest Open Questions After the Finale

What Exactly Is Capri?
The show confirms that Capri is an AI construct built by Arasaka as a secret weapon that needs a compatible human host, but it never fully explains where its power comes from or what it wants. Its reality-bending abilities have led many fans to connect it to the Blackwall, though that link is not confirmed in the series. It is also never revealed what is waiting at the light in the sky that Capri sends D. toward.

Is There a Connection to David Martinez?
The season drops two intriguing hints: the finale reveals that D.’s full first name is David, and Arasaka’s search for compatible Capri hosts suggests the corporation had been tracking people like David Martinez. The series does not say that any part of David lives on inside Capri. Speculation: The idea that Arasaka salvaged something of David for its experiments, or that Capri’s fixation on the sky mirrors David and Lucy’s dream of the moon, is pure fan theory at this point, but it is a very tempting one.

Is Weak Really Talia’s Father?
On paper, Kiril is Talia’s father, and he has the records and DNA tests to back it up. The season still leaves room for the possibility that Avida let Weak believe he was Talia’s father to get his help. The show never gives a final answer, but by the end, it no longer seems to matter: Weak and Talia have become father and daughter in every way that counts.

Will There Be a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 3?
As of now, there is no official confirmation of a third season. If one does happen, the first two seasons suggest it would most likely tell a brand-new standalone story rather than continue D.’s journey directly, but that is our expectation, not an announcement.

Edgerunners 2 Timeline: Where Does Season 2 Fit?

The short answer: the series never gives an exact year. No calendar, no date in the dialogue. What we can say for sure is where the first season sits. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 1 is set around 2076, about a year before the events of Cyberpunk 2077. In the game itself, El Capitan refers to David’s crew stirring up trouble roughly a year earlier, which pins Season 1 down as a prequel to V’s story.

Season 2 clearly takes place after Season 1. David Martinez’s story has already become a Night City legend, and D. describes his actions as something that happened a while back. Sztybor himself has been careful not to give away the year, telling GamesRadar+ that the clues are in the story but adding, “I don’t want to make the statement that it’s [definitively] before or after 2077.”

Johnny Silverhand and V driving through Night City in a Porsche in Cyberpunk 2077

Season 2 drops hints that V and Johnny Silverhand’s story in Cyberpunk 2077 has already played out.

Is Edgerunners 2 Set After Cyberpunk 2077?

Not officially confirmed, but the clues point in that direction. Early in the season, Arasaka is described as taking more hits than ever, which fits the aftermath of V’s assault on Arasaka Tower in the game’s finale. Episode 6 also references Johnny Silverhand and V, and the season shows Soulkiller-style technology being used far more openly than it was before the game, with Kang Tao now chasing its own version of Arasaka’s secrets.

Speculation: Putting those hints together, our best estimate is that Edgerunners 2 takes place after the main story of Cyberpunk 2077, most likely somewhere around 2078 or 2079. Until CD PROJEKT RED gives an official year, treat that as an educated guess. Here’s how the timeline looks based on what we know:

  • 2023: Johnny Silverhand dies during the attack on Arasaka Tower (established franchise lore).
  • Around 2076: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 1, David Martinez’s story and death.
  • 2077: Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty, V’s story.
  • After 2077 (unconfirmed, likely 2078 to 2079): Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.

Since the game lets you choose very different endings, Edgerunners 2 never commits to which one is canon. Whether your V took the Aldecaldos route, sided with Arasaka or walked into the Sun ending, the anime only hints that Arasaka took a serious blow, which leaves every V’s story intact.

What’s Next for Cyberpunk After Edgerunners 2?

Night City is not going quiet. Alongside the Netflix premiere, CD PROJEKT RED announced the Edgerunners 2 Update (Update 2.5) for Cyberpunk 2077. The free update brings content inspired by the anime and launches on October 22, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version following shortly after. More details and the official patch notes are set to arrive on October 21 during a special REDstreams episode. On top of that, Paramount is developing a live-action film, which we covered in our Cyberpunk 2077 movie article.

What do you think happened to D. and Capri? Did he escape Night City for good, or did the city claim another David? Let us know in the comments.
