WoW Forever Guide: Release Time, Talents, Leveling Classes and Addons
World of Warcraft: Forever is live. Blizzard opened the new, reimagined version of original Azeroth on November 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST, which was midnight on November 5 in Central Europe. This WoW Forever guide covers what you need on day one: the exact release time in every region, how to get in, what is new, how talents work, a starter look at the best leveling classes (our tier list approach) and which addons work. If you want the story behind the game first, read our Warcraft lore explained guide.
We stick to what Blizzard has published and to reputable outlets. Anything that is not confirmed is marked, and where the community is still testing, we say so. This guide reflects the state of the game on November 5, 2026.

๐ฎ How to Play WoW Forever: Access, Install and Editions
You do not need to buy a separate game. Blizzard says access to WoW: Forever is included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time, so one subscription covers both Forever and the modern game. Optional upgrade editions add cosmetics and extras.
How to install
- Download the Battle.net desktop app for Windows or Mac and log in.
- Open the app and select WoW: Forever from the menu.
- Under Game Version, choose WoW: Forever. If you have more than one WoW account, pick the active account you want to play on.
- Click Install and press Play when the progress bar finishes.
If you cannot log in, start with the “Can’t Log In?” account recovery page of Blizzard Support. Before installing, update your operating system and graphics drivers.
Which edition do you need?
Blizzard offers three digital upgrades and a physical Collector’s Edition. We do not list prices here because they differ by region and store, so check the Battle.net Shop for your price.
- Skyborne Heroic Pack: access to the new Skyborne race and the Zephras Isle starting experience, Early Name Reservation, the Cerulean Prideclaw ground mount (you need the in-game riding skill to use it), cosmetics, housing decor and one Invite-A-Friend Launch Code.
- Skyborne Epic Pack: everything in the Heroic Pack plus beta access that began on September 17, 30 days of Game Time starting November 4, more cosmetics, pets and tabards, and three Invite-A-Friend Launch Codes in total.
- Warcraft Forever Collection (limited time): everything in the Epic Pack plus Warcraft III: Reforged, the Forsaken Kingdom campaign and two housing decor items for modern WoW.
- Collector’s Edition: a physical edition sold through the Blizzard Gear Store while supplies last.
The Skyborne race needs the Heroic Pack or higher. Everything else is part of the base game. We covered the launch of the paid race in our WoW: Forever beta report, and explained why the Skyborne are not locked to one faction.
๐ What Is New in WoW Forever
- New and reimagined zones: more than 1,000 new quests across levels 1 to 60, with new destinations such as Mount Hyjal, Shen’dralas, the Riverglades and Zephras Isle.
- Nine new dungeons: Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron, Excavation Site, City of Dalaran, The Drowned City and Krol’dok Stronghold in the Eastern Kingdoms, plus Alcaz Prison, Blackmaw Hold and Shaper’s Terrace in Kalimdor. They cover levels 13 to 60.
- New race and class combinations: Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman and Gnome Priest for the Alliance, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock and Undead Paladin for the Horde.
- Skyborne: a new playable race that can join either faction, starting on Zephras Isle (levels 1 to 12). Horde-aligned Windshapers can become Shaman, Alliance-aligned High Order Skyborne can become Mages.
- Legacy System: account-wide horizontal progression with challenges, perks and rewards. At launch each character can spend up to 16 Legacy Points, and you can reach that cap on a single character.
- Darkspear Islands: a new 15 versus 15 battleground for levels 30 to 60. The first team to reach 2,000 points wins.
- Camping: a shared campsite system that turns the Cooking profession’s Basic Campfire into a place where players add profession features and gain buffs.
- Gamepad support: you can play with a controller, although you still need a keyboard for chat.
- Two-part names: every character has a first and second name, and the full combination must be unique in your region.
Choose your experience preset and ruleset
The first time you log in, you pick an Experience Preset, then a Ruleset. Classic starts with standard definition character models, quest guidance, one-bag view and transmog turned off and a classic screen layout. Enhanced starts with high definition models, quest guidance, one-bag view and transmog on and a centralized layout. Blizzard suggests Enhanced if you are unsure, and you can change every individual setting later under Game Menu, Options.
Instead of a realm list, you choose a Ruleset: Normal, PvP, Roleplay or Roleplay-PvP. Hardcore is planned for after launch, but Blizzard has not given a date. This choice matters for friends: characters can group, join guilds, run dungeons and raid together only within the same Ruleset and faction, and players on PvP realms are restricted to one faction. Agree on both before you create a character.
๐ณ WoW Forever Talents Explained
Blizzard says classes in WoW: Forever are revisited with talent and ability updates rooted in original WoW. A familiar class name is, in Blizzard’s words, a starting point and not a guarantee of the same build or combat rhythm. Hunters are the example Blizzard gives: they can use traps in combat, and their pets gain definition through gear scaling and unique family abilities.
Community talent calculators describe the system like Classic: three talent trees per class, with your first point at level 10 and one more per level, which adds up to 51 points at level 60. This is not an official figure, so check the in-game talent window.
Changes Blizzard has confirmed in its development notes
In its notes from the end of the beta, Blizzard explains that it raised damage across the classes and increased the health of higher-level creatures to compensate, because holding every class to Classic power budgets left iconic abilities feeling weak. A few examples from those notes:
- Hunter: all trap types now share one 30 second cooldown. Aimed Shot, Arcane Shot and Serpent Sting were buffed.
- Paladin: Righteous Fury can be trained at level 10 (it was 16), and Oath of Light, Stoicism, Shieldsworn and Unsealed Wrath (the new 31-point Retribution talent) are new.
- Druid: Lacerate is now a Feral talent, and Feral has two different 31-point talents, one for bear and one for cat gameplay.
- Rogue: a new passive called Poised arrives at level 18 and a new spell, Shank, at level 24.
- Shaman: Lava Burst was removed and replaced by the Call of Thunder talent. Riptide now only heals over time.
- Everyone: training all class abilities from level 1 to 60 costs between 206 and 207 gold for every class, and newly learned spells are no longer added to your action bars automatically.
Blizzard also says it does not plan big tuning changes before the raids open, except for bugs and serious outliers, and expects a larger tuning pass once players have data from leveling past 30 and from a wide range of content. Treat any build you read today as a starting point. We do not publish full talent builds yet, because these trees are still being hotfixed.
๐ Best Class for Leveling: A Starter Recommendation
This is not an official ranking and not a raid tier list. Raids do not open until December 9, so a real endgame tier list would be guesswork right now. What we can do is compare what several outlets and databases published about solo leveling from 1 to 60, and list only where they agree. Their exact letter grades differ a lot, and most were written during the beta, so we skip the grades.
| Your goal | What the leveling lists point to | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Fast solo leveling with little downtime | Beast Mastery Hunter, Affliction Warlock | Hunter and Warlock sit at or near the top in most of the lists we compared. The Hunter pet holds enemies while you shoot, and Warlocks have strong sustain. |
| A sturdy all-rounder | Paladin | Rated highly by several lists for survivability and usefulness in early dungeons. Lists disagree on how high exactly. |
| A gear-hungry challenge | Warrior | Warriors landed in the lower tiers in the lists we checked and are described as gear dependent. |
| Healing | Holy, Discipline and Restoration specs | Healing specs rank low for solo questing, so many healers level as a damage spec or in dungeon groups. |
Remember that class tuning changed again just before launch, so pick the class you enjoy. Every class can reach level 60, and the new race and class combinations are a fun reason to try something unusual. If you play with friends, choose Ruleset and faction first.
๐งฉ WoW Forever Addons: What Works and What to Install
Addons are part of WoW: Forever. Blizzard told the community that WoW Forever shares Mainline WoW’s UI architecture, including the vast majority of APIs available in 12.1.5, and that the addon restrictions introduced in Midnight, including secret values, are active in Forever too. In practice this means addons can restyle your interface, but they cannot read protected combat values to make decisions for you. Many addons built for Classic need to be remade, while current modern addons are easier to port, so always check that an addon lists support for WoW: Forever before you install it.
Blizzard also built some tools into the game. The Advanced options include a Cooldown Manager and a Damage Meter, so you can start without any addons.
Addons worth a look on day one
These picks come from GameSpot’s beta-tested addon list and from Wowhead. We have not tested each one ourselves, and compatibility can change with updates. You can find them through an addon manager or on CurseForge.
- Questie: adds quest indicators for quests you do not have in your log yet, extra quest drop data and party announcements. Wowhead recommends it. The game now has its own quest guidance, so GameSpot calls it useful rather than essential.
- Forever Quest Pins: adds quest markers to the world map while keeping the standard quest tracker.
- Auctionator: shows market prices so you do not undersell on the Auction House.
- Bagnon: merges your bags into one view and lets you check your bank and guild vault anywhere.
- What’s Training?: adds a spellbook tab that shows what each level unlocks and what it costs.
- OpenMap: a map addon that zooms smoothly from the world map into cities and dungeons.
- RareScanner: alerts you to rare NPCs, treasures and events. It needs nameplates turned on.
- Attune: helps guilds track attunement progress for dungeons and raids.
- Ellesmere UI and BlizzMove: a full interface overhaul on one side, simple movable default frames on the other.
๐ What Comes Next
According to the published roadmap, the first raids unlock on December 9: Barrow Deeps for 10 players, Hyjal Summit for 20 players and Onyxia’s Lair for 40 players. Hardcore follows at a later date, and further updates with new raids and dungeons are planned for spring and summer 2027. Molten Core is not named on the roadmap, so its return is unconfirmed. For the reasoning behind the launch balance, read how the pre-launch patch broke from Classic’s power budgets.
