PlatinumGames Boss Responds to Stellar Blade Director’s Plea for More Bayonetta
Stellar Blade: Complete Edition is bringing EVE to Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, and PC on November 5, and the version comes with a free crossover: four outfits inspired by Bayonetta, SEGA and PlatinumGames’ witch with a gun for feet. The collaboration also produced one of the more entertaining Famitsu interviews of the year, with Stellar Blade director Kim Hyung-tae all but begging PlatinumGames for a job.
“I’d Come Every Day”
Kim has long cited Bayonetta as one of his favorite games of all time, and the sit-down with PlatinumGames boss Atsushi Inaba gave him a chance to say so directly. He praised the series’ action design and asked, half joking, whether he could design characters for a future entry himself, going as far as to say, “If PlatinumGames would make a desk for me, I’d come every day.” He even floated the idea of a tenth mainline game, a stretch given the series currently sits at three numbered entries plus the 2023 prequel Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon.

Inaba’s Cautious, Amused Reply
Inaba did not make any promises. Faced with Kim’s enthusiasm, he simply laughed and answered, “I’d like to do my best.” It is a modest response, but a notably warmer one than PlatinumGames has offered on the subject in years, and it comes at a moment when fans have had little to go on. SEGA owns the Bayonetta IP outright, with PlatinumGames handling development and Nintendo publishing every entry since Bayonetta 2, so any future game would need buy-in from multiple companies before it could move forward.
A Franchise Waiting on Its Own Studio
The timing matters because PlatinumGames is not the studio it was when Bayonetta Origins shipped. Series creator Hideki Kamiya left in 2023 to found Clovers, which is now developing Capcom’s upcoming Okami sequel. Bayonetta 3 director Yusuke Miyata, Astral Chain director Takahisa Taura, and Bayonetta Origins director Abebe Tinari have all since departed as well, leaving PlatinumGames considerably thinner on experienced action-game leadership than it was during the Switch era. No new Bayonetta game has been confirmed since Origins released in 2023, and nothing in this week’s exchange changes that, but Inaba’s answer is the closest thing to encouragement the franchise has gotten in a while.
