‘Criminal Minds: Evolution’ Will End With Season 20 on Paramount+
The Behavioral Analysis Unit is closing its last case. Paramount+ confirmed this week that “Criminal Minds: Evolution” will end with its upcoming Season 20, bringing the franchise’s two-decade run to a close after its leap from network television to streaming.
A Final Season Set for 2027
Paramount+ broke the news alongside first-look photos from the upcoming episodes, which are expected to air sometime in 2027. Season 20 will mark the fifth season of the “Evolution” revival, and the core cast is set to return once more, including Joe Mantegna, Paget Brewster, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Adam Rodriguez, and RJ Hatanaka. Season 19 closed out its run by resolving Zach Gilford’s Voit storyline and setting up a time jump, leaving the door open for the BAU’s final stretch to head in a number of directions.

Joe Mantegna is among the returning cast members set to close out the BAU’s story in Season 20.

“Criminal Minds” originally premiered on CBS in 2005 with Mandy Patinkin leading the cast as Jason Gideon, before Mantegna took over as David Rossi a few seasons in. The original series ran for 15 seasons before ending its network run in 2020, only to be revived two years later as “Criminal Minds: Evolution” on Paramount+. Showrunner Erica Messer reflected on the show’s long journey in a statement, saying, “it’s hard to put into words what ‘Criminal Minds’ has meant to all of us” who worked on the show across both its CBS and Paramount+ chapters. The franchise also spawned two short-lived spinoffs over the years, “Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior” and “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders,” neither of which lasted beyond a single season.
All 19 existing seasons of “Criminal Minds” and “Evolution” remain available to stream on Paramount+ ahead of the Season 20 premiere.
