Dark Souls 3 Bosses Guide: Complete List of Every Boss Weaknesses, Strategies & Tips (Base Game + DLC)

Dark Souls 3 is one of the most punishing yet rewarding games ever made.
If you’ve been stuck for hours on a boss, smashing your head against the wall (or controller) and going hollow, you’re not alone.
Every Ashen One has been there. This DS3 boss guide breaks down all Dark Souls 3 bosses, base game and both DLCs, with their exact weaknesses (provided straight from player tested data), short descriptions, and tips to help you finally win.
Whether you’re a first time Champion of Ash or a veteran on NG+7, knowing the right damage types, status effects, and weapons can turn impossible fights into manageable ones.

We’ve organized everything clearly: base game first (in rough story order), then DLC. Each entry includes a quick lore/flavor description so you know what you’re up against, plus the full weakness list to exploit immediately.

Base Game Dark Souls 3 Bosses & Weaknesses

Iudex Gundyr

Iudex Gundyr Dark Souls 3 Boss

The very first boss and your brutal welcome to Lothric. A former champion corrupted by the Abyss who transforms mid-fight.
Weaknesses: Strike, Lightning, Bleed, Frostbite, Farron Greatsword.

Tip: Stay aggressive with fast strike weapons and frost/bleed builds, it teaches you the parry and punish rhythm the entire game demands.
Alternatively, if you are a pyromancer, his second form is weak to fire, which gives you an edge in this fight.

Vordt of the Boreal Valley

Vordt of the Boreal Valley Dark Souls 3 Boss

A massive, charging beast serving the Pontiff with deadly frost breath and sweeping attacks.
Weaknesses: Dark, Strike.

Tip: Dark damage melts him fast; circle-strafe and punish after his charges.

Curse-Rotted Greatwood

A grotesque, swollen tree abomination in the Undead Settlement whose weak spots are the exploding sacs on its body.
Weaknesses: Slash, Thrust (especially hands), Fire, Pestilent Mist (Sorcery).

Tip: Pestilent Mist is a lifesaver here, it ignores most defenses and lets you focus on breaking the cursed bulges.

Crystal Sage

A teleporting sorcerer who summons clones and rains crystal soul arrows.
Weaknesses: All Physical Attacks, Lightning, Dark, Fire, Poison/Toxic, Frost.

Tip: Almost everything works, but frost and lightning make the clones disappear faster.

Deacons of the Deep

A horde of chanting clerics protecting a central “eye” carrier in the Cathedral of the Deep.
Weaknesses: All Physical Attacks, Frostbite, Vow of Silence (Miracle).

Tip: Vow of Silence shuts down their magic spam completely, frost builds up fast on the crowd.

Abyss Watchers

A group of sword wielding guardians who fight each other until one absorbs the Abyss and enters phase two.
Weaknesses: Lightning.

Tip: Lightning weapons trivialize both phases; stay mobile and punish when they stagger each other. Boulder Heave can knock them down.

High Lord Wolnir

A giant skeletal lord chained in the Catacombs, vulnerable only to breaking his bracelets.
Weaknesses: Strike, Blessed Weapons.

Tip: Blessed weapons destroy his bracelets in seconds and ignore the deadly darkness pool.

Old Demon King

The last of the ancient demons, a slow but devastating hammer wielding giant in the Smouldering Lake.
Weaknesses: Dark, Black Knight Weapons.

Tip: Black Knight weapons (or any dark infusion) make this fight feel unfair in your favor.

Pontiff Sulyvahn

One of the most aggressive and stylish bosses in the game, dual wields swords and summons a deadly phantom clone in phase two.
Weaknesses: Thrust, Lightning, Fire, Dark, Critical Strike.

Tip: Critical ripostes after parries are devastating; dark or fire weapons speed up the kill.

Yhorm the Giant

A colossal lord who can only be truly hurt by the Storm Ruler greatsword (but still has elemental weaknesses).
Weaknesses: Lightning, Dark.

Tip: Lightning or dark infusions on any weapon help between Storm Ruler blasts.

Aldrich, Devourer of Gods

A grotesque, slime-covered god eater who teleports and rains arrows from Anor Londo’s throne.
Weaknesses: Thrust, Lightning, Fire, Farron Greatsword, Wolf Knight Greatsword, Vow of Silence (Miracle), Headshots.

Tip: Vow of Silence stops most of his magic; focus the head for massive damage.

Dancer of the Boreal Valley

Dancer of the Boreal Valley Dark Souls 3 Boss

A graceful, paired swords knight whose attacks become faster and more lethal in phase two.
Weaknesses: Dark.

Tip: Pure dark damage turns this elegant nightmare into a quick victory.

Dragonslayer Armour

A possessed suit of armor wielding a massive shield and a lightning Greataxe.
Weaknesses: Strike, Frost, Wolf Knight Greatsword, Farron Greatsword.

Tip: Frost weapons slow its combos dramatically.

Oceiros, the Consumed King

A deranged, dragon mutated king who crawls and breathes crystal magic.
Weaknesses: Lightning, Frost.

Tip: Frostbite procs make him sluggish; lightning melts his health bar.

Champion Gundyr

A harder, faster version of the first boss found in the Untended Graves.
Weaknesses: Strike, Lightning, Frost, Bleed.

Tip: Same strategy as Iudex but with bleed, punish his charged attacks hard.

With knowledge of the Champion Gundyr movement, using Chaos Bed Vestiges as a Pyromancer can make this fight a lot easier.

Lorian and Lothric, Twin Princes

Two brother princes: one weak sorcerer and one crippled sword wielding knight who teleport and cast together.
Weaknesses: All Physical Attacks (Lothric), Lightning, Frost, Magic (Lorian).

Tip: Focus Lorian with magic or Lothric with physical, frost slows their teleport spam.

Ancient Wyvern

A towering dragon you can one shot with a plunging attack from the ruins above.
Weaknesses: Thrust, Lightning, Frostbite, Plunging Attack.

Tip: The plunge is the intended gimmick, but lightning/frost still destroys it if you fight normally.

Nameless King – Phase 1 (King of the Storm)

The legendary warrior riding a massive storm dragon.
Weaknesses: Lightning, Frostbite.

Tip: Lightning spears or frost weapons make quick work of the dragon phase.
Casting is also a great way to beat the first phase. Enough casting damage to the dragon’s head knocks him down, presenting an option for a critical hit (preferably with an upgraded lightning dagger for the most crit damage).

Nameless King – Phase 2

The king alone, now on foot with devastating combos and lightning attacks.
Weaknesses: Fire, Dark.
Tip: Dark damage is king here; dodge his lightning and punish the long recovery windows.

With knowledge of the Nameless King’s phase 2 movement, using Gnaw or Dorhys’s Gnawing can make this fight a lot easier.

Soul of Cinder

The final boss, a fusion of every Lord of Cinder with multiple weapon phases.
Weaknesses: Lightning, Dark, Vow of Silence (Miracle – Phase 1 only).

Tip: Vow of Silence ruins phase 1 magic; dark/lightning carries you through the rest.

DLC Bosses & Weaknesses (Ashes of Ariandel + The Ringed City)

Champion’s Gravetender (with Great Wolf)

A loyal spectral wolf that fights alongside the page of its knight master in the Painted World.
Weaknesses: Strike, Fire, All Status Effects.

Tip: Any status (bleed, poison, frost) stacks insanely fast.

Sister Friede (with Father Ariandel)

Sister Friede Soul
Dark Souls 3 Boss

The three phase scythe wielding boss who becomes even deadlier when Ariandel joins in phase 2.
Weaknesses: Strike (Friede), All Status Effects (Ariandel).

Tip: Strike weapons and status spam destroy the first phases + Friede has very low poise and high backstab potential.

Demon Prince (Two Demons)

Demon Prince Soul
Dark Souls 3 Boss

Twin demons who fight together before one absorbs the other turning into the Demon Prince.
Weaknesses: Slash, Bleed, Black Knight Weapons.

Tip: Black Knight weapons and bleed make this chaotic fight much smoother.

Halflight (Spears of the Church)

Filianore's Spear Ornament Dark Souls 3

The defensive church guardian boss with phantom allies.
Weaknesses: Lightning, Frost.

Tip: Lightning and frost cut through the adds and Halflight quickly. Casting spells and keeping distance can get you a good amount of free damage. Halflight has low poise and can be knocked down.

Darkeater Midir

The colossal, laser breathing dark dragon, one of the hardest optional bosses in the series.
Weaknesses: Thrust, Lightning.

Tip: Stay under his head. Pestilent Mist melts Darkeater Midir‘s health like nothing else in the game and gives you an edge in this fight. The spell deals percentage based damage, which is particularly devastating against bosses with massive health pools.

Slave Knight Gael (final DLC boss)

The tragic, power mad warrior who searches for the Dark Soul for his Lady across three brutal phases.
Weaknesses: Strike, Frostbite, Poison/Toxic , Storyteller’s Staff ; Hollowslayer Greatsword (phases 2 & 3 only).

Tip: Hollowslayer shines in later phases; frost and poison keep him honest.

There you have it, the complete Dark Souls 3 bosses and weaknesses guide.
Every single major encounter covered so you can plan your builds, infusions, and spells ahead of time.
Dark Souls 3 never gets easier, but it does get fairer when you know exactly what to bring.

Keep going, Ashen One. The Lords of Cinder are waiting… and now you have the tools to send them back to their graves.
If a boss still gives you trouble, experiment with the listed weaknesses, the right weapon or miracle can completely change the fight.
Praise the Sun and happy hunting!
