FromSoftware Shuts Down Dark Souls 2 and 3 Multiplayer Over Unspecified Server Issue

FromSoftware has temporarily shut down online multiplayer for Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 across every platform, citing an unspecified server issue. The closure, confirmed by FromSoftware Player Support in an October 30 post on X, disables invasions, co-op summons and in-game messages in both games until further notice.

What FromSoftware Has Said

FromSoftware Player Support didn’t explain what triggered the outage, confirming only that the affected servers would be taken offline while the company looks into the problem. No cause or restoration date has been given, and FromSoftware says it will share an updated timeline once more information is available.

“Temporarily unavailable on all platforms.”

Dark Souls 2’s online features, including invasions and co-op, are offline alongside Dark Souls 3’s while FromSoftware investigates the server issue.

Not the First Time This Has Happened

This isn’t the first time FromSoftware’s older Dark Souls games have lost their online functionality without warning. Back in early 2022, a remote code execution exploit forced the publisher to pull PC servers for the entire trilogy offline for months while a fix was developed. This outage looks different: only Dark Souls 2 and 3 are affected this time, and the shutdown covers every platform rather than just PC, which points to a narrower issue than the 2022 exploit. FromSoftware’s attention is largely elsewhere right now too, with the studio having just delayed The Duskbloods to 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2 to rework its rules and balancing.

A Workaround for PC Players

PC players who still want to play together in the meantime have one option left. Yui’s fan-made Seamless Co-op mod runs on its own independent servers rather than FromSoftware’s official ones, letting friends play through either game together with shared progress and no interruptions on death. Since the mod never relied on FromSoftware’s own multiplayer servers, it isn’t affected by the current shutdown.
