Helldivers 2 and Horizon Forbidden West Vanish From Steam in the UK, and Sony Is Working With Valve to Fix It

Helldivers 2 and Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition have both quietly vanished from the UK Steam store, and Sony says it has no idea yet what caused it. New purchases of either game in the United Kingdom have been blocked since Wednesday, September 16, with the store pages returning a regional error instead of a buy button.

What Sony Says Happened

Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed the outage shortly after players started noticing it, framing it as a technical hiccup rather than a deliberate removal. In its statement, the company said it is “aware of an issue affecting the availability of select titles on Steam” in the UK, adding that it is working with Valve to fix things and apologizing for the inconvenience. No timeline for a fix has been given, and Sony has not said what is actually causing the problem.

Trying to buy either game from a UK Steam account currently returns an error message saying the item is unavailable in that region, even though the store listings themselves are still up.

Your Save File Is Safe

If you already own Helldivers 2 or Horizon Forbidden West on Steam, nothing changes for you. Both games remain fully playable for existing owners, and PS5 players can still access Helldivers 2 normally, including through PlayStation Plus. The block only affects new UK purchases, which is why this looks more like a backend listing error than anything resembling a takedown.

Not the Same Story as 2024

Worth clearing up: this is a different situation from the messy PSN account-linking saga that pulled Helldivers 2 from Steam in dozens of countries back in 2024. That was Sony’s own policy decision, later reversed after backlash. This time, only the UK is affected, only two games are involved, and Sony is openly calling it an unresolved issue rather than a rule change.

The Bigger Picture

The timing hasn’t helped Sony’s PR, landing in the middle of a rockier stretch for PlayStation that includes July’s announcement that physical disc production for new PS5 games will end in January 2028. Helldivers 2 in particular remains one of the platform’s biggest recent success stories, having sold over 12 million copies across PS5 and PC within its first 12 weeks back in 2024, so an unexplained UK storefront glitch is drawing more attention than it might otherwise.
