The Traitors Is Renewed Through Season 8, and Its New Civilian Spinoff Just Premiered on NBC

Peacock isn’t done with The Traitors. The network announced on September 16 that it’s ordering three additional seasons of the psychological competition show, locking in Seasons 6 through 8 on top of the already-confirmed Season 5. The renewal lands just two days after The Traitors swept the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards for the second year running, and the same week its NBC spinoff, The Traitors: New Blood, premiered with an all-civilian cast.

A Second Consecutive Clean Sweep at the Emmys

On September 14, The Traitors won every category it was nominated in at the Emmys, seven wins from seven nominations. That’s Outstanding Reality Competition Program, Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program (a third consecutive win for Alan Cumming), and five Creative Arts trophies for directing, cinematography, costumes, picture editing, and production design. It’s the second year in a row the show has gone a perfect seven for seven after also sweeping five for five in 2025, and NBCUniversal is calling it the most Emmy wins in a single year for a competition series in television history, reportedly surpassing a mark RuPaul’s Drag Race set back in 2020. Ratings to Match the Trophy Case

The awards haul lines up with the numbers. Peacock says Season 4 viewership surged 72 percent over the prior season, and The Traitors has racked up 8.1 billion total minutes viewed since its January 8 premiere. That makes it the second most-watched original reality series of 2026 by minutes viewed, trailing only Love Island USA, another Peacock original.

What the New Deal Covers

The new order brings Alan Cumming and producer Studio Lambert back for Seasons 6 through 8 on top of the previously ordered Season 5, which is set to arrive in 2027 with its cast already revealed, including Kristin Chenoweth, Dominic Monaghan, and Whitney Leavitt among the roughly two dozen names. If Peacock keeps to roughly one season a year, the deal keeps the cast and crew at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands through the end of the decade.

A Civilian Spinoff Widens the Audience

The renewal news arrived the same week as The Traitors: New Blood, an NBC spinoff that swaps the celebrity cast for 22 ordinary Americans chosen from more than 80,000 applicants. Its two-episode premiere aired Thursday, September 17, with new episodes streaming on Peacock the day after each broadcast. Cumming hosts this version too, again from a Scottish castle, putting a nurse, an astrophysicist, an ironworker, and other civilians through the same Faithful-versus-Traitor gameplay that turned the original into Peacock’s second-biggest show.
