MobLand Gets a Season 3 Before Season 2 Even Premieres, and Tom Hardy Almost Walked Away
MobLand Season 2 premieres today, September 18, on Paramount+, and the streamer isn’t waiting to see how it performs before committing to more. On September 3, two weeks ahead of the premiere, Paramount+ officially renewed the crime drama for a third season, with Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren all confirmed to return as the Harrigan family’s fixer and its scheming patriarch and matriarch.
A Renewal That Was Basically Already Decided
The early pickup is less of a gamble than it looks. A Season 3 writers’ room had reportedly already opened earlier this year, well before the official announcement, which made the renewal something of a formality rather than a surprise. MobLand is produced in association with Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios, with Guy Ritchie, Jez Butterworth, David C. Glasser, and Tom Hardy himself among the executive producers. The confidence tracks with the show’s numbers: Season 1 became Paramount+’s biggest global series premiere at the time it launched in 2025, and had climbed to 26 million total viewers by the following summer, when the show first got renewed for Season 2.
How Tom Hardy Almost Didn’t Come Back
The renewal wasn’t a given for one specific reason: Tom Hardy’s own future on the show was genuinely in doubt earlier this year. Reports surfaced in May that Hardy was considering walking away from MobLand entirely, following creative disagreements with executive producers Jez Butterworth and David C. Glasser at 101 Studios. Helen Mirren publicly threw her support behind her co-star that same month, posting on Instagram, “Love you now and always.” By late June, Hardy had met with producers in London, with Guy Ritchie reportedly helping broker the resolution that brought him back into the fold for both the rest of Season 2 and the newly confirmed Season 3.
MobLand Season 2 premieres today on Paramount+, with the Harrigan family’s fixer, Harry Da Souza, once again at the center of the storm.
What’s Waiting in Season 2
Season 1 ended on a brutal note: Maeve Harrigan was exposed as the mole working against her own family, Conrad and Maeve were both arrested, Harry violently settled things with rival Richie Stevenson, and the finale closed with Harry’s own wife, Jan, stabbing him. Season 2 picks up in the wreckage, with the Harrigans struggling to present a unified front as rising rivals circle their fractured empire. Harry has to walk a dangerous tightrope as tensions inside the family boil over, and as the official synopsis puts it, loyalties snap and the battle for power leaves no room for mercy.
