The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth Gets Its First Full Trailer, and Brad Pitt’s Fixer Is Already in Over His Head
Netflix finally released the first full trailer for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth on September 21, following months of teaser-length footage, including a Super Bowl spot back in February and a brief theatrical-only teaser that played ahead of Resident Evil screenings. The trailer confirms what Gamersuniverse readers already know from the film’s release date reveal: Brad Pitt is back as Cliff Booth, in a script Quentin Tarantino wrote himself but stepped back from directing, handing the film instead to David Fincher.
What the Trailer Shows
Set to Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog,” the trailer leans hard into throwback 1970s style while trading the original film’s warm, sun-drenched cinematography for something colder. Cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt, who shot the bulk of the film, and Jeff Cronenweth, who handled reshoots, give the footage a darker, murkier look that fits Fincher’s usual register more than Tarantino’s. Cliff reminisces about his old stunt days at one point, joking, “Oh, uh, Rick got too fat for me to double him anymore,” a nod to Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton from the first film.

A Fixer for Hire in 1977 Hollywood
The film picks up in 1977, eight years after the original’s 1969 setting, with Cliff no longer doubling for movie stars but working as a fixer solving problems for Hollywood’s elite, whatever those problems happen to be. The trailer teases a grittier, more crime-driven version of the industry than the fairy tale ending of the first film left behind, trading nostalgia for the kind of trouble a man like Cliff is built to handle.
Who’s Along for the Ride
Brad Pitt is joined by Elizabeth Debicki as talent agent Karen Crosby, Scott Caan as TV star Charlie Peters, and Carla Gugino as Charlie’s wife Toni. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II plays a football star turned actor named Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison, while Timothy Olyphant takes on real-life 1970s actor and stuntman James Stacy. Peter Weller has reportedly been cast as Cliff’s father, Gus Booth, and Holt McCallany also joins the cast, though his role hasn’t been detailed yet.
When You Can Watch It
The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth plays an exclusive two-week IMAX run starting November 25, marking Netflix’s first-ever IMAX theatrical release, before it streams globally on Netflix starting December 23. Tarantino’s companion novel arrives five days earlier, on December 8, and carries a twist of its own: it’s titled The Adventures of Cliff Booth, the same name the film itself used as a working title before Netflix settled on the longer, official one. Netflix has reportedly budgeted the film at around $200 million.
