007 First Light’s Switch 2 Version Is Delayed Again, Now Arriving Nearly a Year Late

James Bond’s Nintendo Switch 2 debut is getting pushed back again. IO Interactive announced on September 15 that the Switch 2 edition of 007 First Light won’t arrive until March 2027, an exact date still to be confirmed. It’s the second delay for the port since the base game launched on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC back in May, and it means Switch 2 owners will be waiting nearly a year longer than everyone else to play it.

A Delay Nearly a Year in the Making

007 First Light follows a young James Bond through MI6’s training programme, as shown in this official screenshot.

007 First Light was originally set to release day and date across every platform, including Switch 2, on May 27. PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC hit that date without issue, but IO Interactive pulled the Switch 2 version back in April, pointing to the summer as its new target (some outlets reported this as Q3 2026, though IO Interactive itself only ever committed to “summer”). Now, with that window long gone, the studio has pushed the port a second time, this time all the way to March 2027.

Why IO Interactive Says It Needs More Time

IO Interactive broke the news on the game’s official X account, framing the delay as a matter of hitting a quality bar rather than a troubled port. “This additional time will go toward polishing the Nintendo Switch 2 performance of the game,” the studio wrote, promising an exact release date closer to launch.

It’s a line that echoes what CEO Hakan Abrak said back in May, when the first delay was announced on The Game Business podcast. Asked about the Switch 2 version specifically, Abrak said, “We just want to make sure it’s good as it can be,” making clear the studio would rather miss a date than ship a rough version on Nintendo’s hardware.

The wait isn’t entirely empty handed, at least. IO Interactive confirmed the same hands-on demo shown at Gamescom, which drew largely positive impressions from press in attendance, will be playable again at Tokyo Game Show this month, giving Switch 2 owners another chance to see how the training-ground origin story is shaping up before the new release window.

Dodging a Very Crowded Holiday Season

The new date conveniently steers clear of one of the busiest release stretches in years. October brings Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, while November alone is set to deliver both The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake on November 5 and Grand Theft Auto 6 on November 19. Pushing a Switch 2 port into March 2027 sidesteps all three, giving 007 First Light a far clearer shot at attention once it finally lands.

As for the game itself, the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC versions have been out since May and, according to Shacknews, rank among IO Interactive’s fastest-selling releases to date. The PC version also recently picked up a visual overhaul adding path tracing and DLSS 4.5 support, a reminder that development on the rest of 007 First Light hasn’t slowed down even as the Switch 2 edition keeps slipping.
