Control Resonant’s Day-One Patch Nerfs Punishing Early Enemies, But Forces PC Players to Reinstall 92GB
On September 24, Remedy Entertainment released CONTROL Resonant, its action RPG sequel to 2019’s Control, putting players in control of Dylan Faden, the parautilitarian brother of original protagonist Jesse Faden, as he fights to survive a paranormal threat tearing through a warped Manhattan. Hours before launch, Remedy pushed out a day-one patch responding to early feedback that the game’s opening hours were too punishing, though the fix created a new headache for PC players.
A Patch Aimed at Dylan’s Early-Game Power Level
The hotfix targets complaints that Dylan felt underpowered against the Hiss-warped threats roaming Manhattan despite his supernatural abilities. According to the patch notes, changes include:
- Reduced base health for most enemies, including the Dancer and Deserter bosses
- Lower Falter (stun) requirements needed to stagger enemies for executions
- Increased maximum Aberrant and Ability Strength scaling
- Cheaper, easier ability respeccing through vendors
- Clearer UI text explaining combat mechanics

A Reinstall Headache for PC Players
The patch’s timing caused its own problem. Remedy deployed the update roughly an hour before the game’s official launch, which triggered Steam’s platform mechanisms and forced PC players who had already pre-loaded the 92 GB game to download the entire thing again. Remedy apologized on X, writing that “this was an oversight on our part, we don’t have an excuse” for the inconvenience.
Early Reception
Reviews have been largely positive. CONTROL Resonant holds an aggregate Metacritic score of 84, edging past the original 2019 Control’s 82. Destructoid awarded the game a 9/10, calling combat “brilliantly intuitive and wildly satisfying” while praising its exploration of the transformed city.
