Fall 2: Deadpoint Brings Back Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Currey in Flashbacks, and Critics Are Mostly Impressed
Lionsgate’s survival-thriller sequel Fall 2: Deadpoint has been climbing into theaters since September 2, continuing 2022’s Fall with a new pair of leads while still finding room for the original film’s stars to show up in flashback. A few weeks into its run, here’s how the story, the returning cast, and the reviews are shaping up.
A New Duo Takes on Mount Kwan
Harriet Slater stars as Jax Hunter, whose sister Shiloh died in the first film. Grieving alongside Shiloh’s friend Luce (Arsema Thomas), the two set out on a tribute climb across a rickety plank walk on Mount Kwan in Thailand, only for a rockslide to trap them roughly 3,000 feet up and force them to work together to survive. Tom Brittney rounds out the cast as Jon Platt. Twin directors Michael and Peter Spierig take over behind the camera this time, with original director Scott Mann staying on as a producer, reportedly still attached to an already-planned Fall 3.

Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Currey Return, Just Not in the Present
Neither actress from the original Fall comes back for a full role, but both get flashback scenes that reframe Jax’s grief. Virginia Gardner reprises Shiloh in a skydiving flashback with her sister, while Grace Caroline Currey returns as Becky for a heated confrontation in which Jax blames her for Shiloh’s death. The film reportedly closes with Jax inviting Becky to Shiloh’s memorial, a soft reset that leaves the door open for Becky, and possibly a Fall 3, down the line.
What Critics Are Saying
Fall 2: Deadpoint currently sits at 54 percent on Rotten Tomatoes from 56 critic reviews, with a slightly warmer 63 percent from audiences. SlashFilm’s Bill Bria was among the more enthusiastic voices, landing on a 7 out of 10 and writing that “Fall 2 proves its mettle by being a nail-biting thriller that feels like it’s not a mere retread.” Other reviews were more mixed, pointing to a subplot bolted onto the survival story that some found unnecessary, and to a formula that plays it safer than the original’s queasier highs.

- Opening weekend: $2.3 million (about 47% of the domestic total)
- Second weekend: $617,000 (a 73% drop)
Those numbers put Fall 2: Deadpoint well behind the original film’s theatrical run, though a sequel built around a smaller cast and a single-location setup was always going to be a cheaper bet for Lionsgate than a breakout hit needed to be.
Whether or not those numbers are enough to greenlight Scott Mann’s planned Fall 3, the flashback cameos suggest the studio isn’t done with Jax, Becky, or the ledge they all keep finding themselves stuck on.
