Fortnite OG Season X Is Live: A Reality Wave Hits the Island With the B.R.U.T.E. and New Rift Zones

Fortnite OG Season X is officially live. Epic Games flipped the switch today, September 3, on the tenth and final season of the current Fortnite OG rotation, and it arrives with the biggest map shake-up the nostalgia mode has seen in a while: a “Reality Wave” that bends timelines, tears open Rift Zones, and drags classic Chapter 1 locations into a whole new state.

Epic Games confirmed the Season X launch in an official Fortnite Communities post titled “Fortnite OG Season X Rifts In.”

A Reality Wave Reshapes the OG Island

According to Epic’s own patch notes, the update rolled out as part of the v42.10 build and comes with the tagline “Out of Time.” Reality is described as bending across the map, and several landmarks tied to past OG seasons have been altered as a result. Over at Loot Lake, the Zero Point now sits frozen at the exact moment of its explosion, and stepping near the orb stops gravity from working normally. Northwest of Salty Springs, the Devourer’s skeleton has been left behind after its defeat by Mecha Team Leader, serving as a reminder of the live event that closed out the previous season.

Dusty Depot has also been fully restored, with its three warehouses standing again and no meteor crater in sight, even though the meteor itself is very much still hanging overhead and can reportedly be climbed and explored. South of Paradise Palms, a brand-new Rift Zone leads into a location called Pandora, where staying inside without taking damage for a few seconds will slowly regenerate a player’s shields.

The B.R.U.T.E. Mech Returns

The B.R.U.T.E. mech is one of the headline returns teased ahead of the Season X launch.

One of the most divisive vehicles in Fortnite history is back for Season X. The B.R.U.T.E. mechs drop from the sky early in matches, and two players can pilot one together, with one person driving, stomping, and leaping while the other mans the missile launcher and shotgun. Materials can also be spent to overcharge the mech’s shield for a temporary defensive boost. Players who would rather fight the B.R.U.T.E. from range now have a new option too: the Automatic Sniper Rifle, added specifically as a launch-day counter to the mech.

New OG Season X Pass

Alongside the map changes, Epic launched a new OG Pass priced at 800 V-Bucks. Progression is tied to overall XP rather than pass-specific challenges, and completing it unlocks three remixed outfits built around fan-favorite Chapter 1 characters: Oxide, Ultima King, and Kinetic Catalyst. As with previous OG Passes, rewards are split across several pages that unlock as players claim earlier items or hit level milestones, and Epic has reiterated that once Season X ends, this pass cannot be reopened later.

Loot Pool Changes and Bug Fixes

The seasonal changeover also brings a fresh round of loot pool adjustments. A batch of items has been vaulted to make room for Season X’s arsenal, while other items are launching now or will be phased in later in the season:

• Vaulted: most vehicles (Driftboard excluded), consumable Gliders, Semi-Auto Sniper Rifle, Flint-Knock Pistol, Shadow Bomb, Air Strike, Mounted Turret, Tactical Assault Rifle, and Ice Cream Cone
• Available at launch: B.R.U.T.E., Junk Rift, Automatic Sniper Rifle, and the Glitched foraged item
• Coming later in the season: Tactical Submachine Gun, Shield Bubble, Zapper Trap, and Spicy Taco

Epic’s v42.10 notes also list a handful of environment and gameplay fixes across the OG map, including repaired ziplines near Neo Tilted, cleaned-up terrain and textures around Loot Lake, Paradise Palms, Frosty Flights, and Snobby Shores, and the removal of a duplicate lab structure at Pressure Plant.

Fortnite OG Season X is available now across all platforms that support Fortnite OG. With this being the tenth and presumably closing chapter of the current OG cycle, players are already speculating in the official Epic Games community threads about whether the mode will roll into Chapter 2 content next, or take a break entirely once Season X wraps up.
