PlayStation State of Play September 2026: Final Fantasy VII Revelation Gets a 2027 Release Date
Sony kicked off a busy week of gaming news with a double-header State of Play on September 3, pairing a global showcase with a dedicated State of Play Japan broadcast right after it. The headline moment came at the very end, when Square Enix used its extended segment to confirm that Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the closing chapter of the Remake trilogy, will launch on April 8, 2027.

The main State of Play opened with fresh footage from the upcoming live-action Resident Evil movie before moving into trailers for Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yotei’s new hardcore survival mode. A trio of indie spotlights followed, including Annapurna’s puzzle-adventure Uncanyon, the folk-horror title Hunter’s Moon, and the surprise PS5 debut of Double Fine’s Keeper, which shadow-dropped on the platform the same day. Konami also showed off more of its RPGs Rev. NOiR and Rhapsody in Scarlet, both aiming for a 2027 launch. Once the main broadcast wrapped, State of Play Japan carried on with a fresh look at titles from studios across Japan and Asia, hosted once again by voice actor Yuki Kaji.

As promised, the broadcast closed with an extended look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation, and Square Enix didn’t hold back. Alongside fresh gameplay showing off the airship Highwind and its new skydiving traversal, the studio confirmed the game will release simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC on April 8, 2027. The trailer also gave a fuller look at the assembled party, including newly playable members Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine, and teased the FITS system that lets characters take on class-based abilities inspired by classic Final Fantasy jobs. For a trilogy that’s spent over a decade in the making, a confirmed day-one, all-platforms launch is a significant milestone.
