Final Fantasy Resonance Release Time and Demo Save Transfer: When It Unlocks and How to Keep Your Progress
Final Fantasy Resonance is almost here. Square Enix’s first HD-2D Final Fantasy launches on Thursday, October 22, 2026, and if you’ve already played the free demo, the good news is that your progress comes with you. This guide covers the expected Final Fantasy Resonance release time in every major region (including Vienna and the rest of Central Europe), all platforms, preload, how the demo save transfer works step by step, and whether the game tells the same story as Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.
When Does Final Fantasy Resonance Come Out?
Final Fantasy Resonance releases on October 22, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and Xbox on PC. The date has been official since the reveal in June, and Square Enix repeated it when the demo went live during the September 2026 State of Play.
One detail causes confusion: Square Enix’s Japanese release information lists the Steam version for October 23. That isn’t a delay. It’s simply the date in Japan Standard Time, which lines up with a single worldwide Steam unlock on the afternoon of October 22 in Europe.
Final Fantasy Resonance Release Time by Region
Important: Square Enix has not officially confirmed an exact unlock time for any platform. The Steam time below is the expected time, taken from the release timestamp in the Steam store data (October 22, 2026 at 16:00 UTC). It fits the “plans to unlock” countdown on the Steam page and the October 23 Steam date in Japan, but it can still change. On consoles, the game is expected to unlock at midnight local time, which is how reported PlayStation Store data lists it. Microsoft and Nintendo haven’t published an hour.
| Region / City | Steam (expected, 16:00 UTC) | Consoles (expected) |
|---|---|---|
| Los Angeles (PDT) | Oct 22, 9:00 AM | Oct 22, midnight local |
| New York (EDT) | Oct 22, 12:00 PM | Oct 22, midnight local |
| São Paulo (BRT) | Oct 22, 1:00 PM | Oct 22, midnight local |
| London (BST) | Oct 22, 5:00 PM | Oct 22, midnight local |
| Vienna, Berlin, Paris (CEST) | Oct 22, 6:00 PM (18:00) | Oct 22, midnight local |
| Dubai (GST) | Oct 22, 8:00 PM | Oct 22, midnight local |
| New Delhi (IST) | Oct 22, 9:30 PM | Oct 22, midnight local |
| Tokyo (JST) | Oct 23, 1:00 AM | Oct 22, midnight local |
| Sydney (AEDT) | Oct 23, 3:00 AM | Oct 22, midnight local |
A quick note for Europe: daylight saving time only ends on October 25, 2026, so Central Europe is still on summer time (CEST, UTC+2) at launch. That’s why the expected Steam unlock in Vienna is 18:00 and not 17:00. Console players in Europe can expect to start at midnight on the night from October 21 to October 22, so console players will most likely be playing hours before PC players on Steam.

Can You Preload Final Fantasy Resonance?
Square Enix itself hasn’t published an official preload schedule. On PS5, store data reportedly opened preloading on October 20, two days before launch. On Steam, pre-purchasers usually get access to the preload shortly before launch, but no exact date has been announced. If you pre-ordered on Xbox or Switch, check your library or the eShop page for a pre-download option.

The demo includes the full first chapter, so you can learn the timeline-based combat before launch.
Does the Demo Save Transfer to the Full Game?
Yes. Square Enix has confirmed in its official announcement, on the PlayStation Blog and on the Steam store page that save data from the free demo carries over to the full game. The demo contains the opening and the entire first chapter, which Square Enix estimates at around three to five hours, and the Steam page notes that some level restrictions apply in the demo.
How to Transfer Your Demo Save Step by Step
Square Enix hasn’t published a detailed, platform-by-platform walkthrough, so these steps stick to what is officially confirmed plus the safest way to avoid losing progress:
- Keep your demo save. Don’t delete the demo’s save data before you’ve started the full game. Deleting the demo app itself is fine on most systems, but the save data has to stay on your console or account.
- Buy the full game on the same platform. Square Enix hasn’t announced cross-platform save transfers, so pick the system and account you played the demo on. On Nintendo, the Switch and Switch 2 versions are separate, so stay on the same one.
- Install or preload the full game. On PS5 the preload is reportedly already available. On other platforms, download as soon as your store allows.
- Launch the full game at release. Start the game with the same user profile and look for your demo save when you start or load a game. Square Enix hasn’t detailed the exact menu, so if no save shows up right away, check the load options before starting a new game.
- Continue past Chapter 1. Once your save is loaded, you pick up where the demo ended, now in the full game instead of the level-capped demo.
Is Final Fantasy Resonance the Same Story as Brave Exvius?
Partly. Square Enix officially describes Final Fantasy Resonance as being based on the first story arc of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, set in the Kingdom of Grandshelt on the world of Lapis. So if you played Brave Exvius, you’ll recognize the setup: Rain and Lasswell set out to protect the world’s Crystals and stop Veritas of the Dark. It doesn’t cover the full Brave Exvius saga, though, only that opening arc.
It also isn’t a simple port. On its official European Final Fantasy site, Square Enix calls it “Far from just a direct port” and says the arc has been refined and extensively rebuilt as a full console RPG. The mobile game’s gacha structure is gone, the visuals are now HD-2D, and combat uses a timeline, a stagger gauge, Visions of classic heroes like Cloud, Terra and Lightning, and espers. Brave Exvius itself is no longer playable: the English version ended service in October 2024 and the Japanese version in October 2025.

Final Fantasy Resonance adapts the first story arc of Brave Exvius, rebuilt in HD-2D.
Final Thoughts
Final Fantasy Resonance launches on October 22, 2026, with consoles expected at midnight local time and Steam expected at 16:00 UTC, which is 18:00 in Vienna. Neither time is officially confirmed yet, so keep an eye on your store page on launch day. If you’ve already finished the demo, keep that save: your Chapter 1 progress carries over, so you can pick up right where you left off. Looking for more Final Fantasy?
