Naughty Dog Is Reportedly Developing an All-New Uncharted Game

October 1, 2026 Noah

Naughty Dog’s next project after Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet may be a return to one of its biggest franchises. According to a report from MP1st published on September 30, corroborated by leaker NateTheHate and picked up by outlets including Kotaku, the studio is developing an all-new Uncharted game, and not a remake of the original trilogy.

Lost Legacy Director Shaun Escayag Is Said to Be Leading It

The project is reportedly being directed by Shaun Escayag, a Naughty Dog veteran who directed 2017’s Uncharted: The Lost Legacy before leaving to serve as creative director on Marvel’s Avengers at Crystal Dynamics. Escayag later returned to Naughty Dog, and his history with the franchise is a big part of why sources treat this report as credible, even though nothing has been confirmed by Sony or the studio itself.

Nathan Drake Is Said to Return, but His Role Is Unclear

Sources cited by MP1st say Nathan Drake will appear in the new game “in some form,” though it’s not clear whether that means a full protagonist role, a side character, or just a cameo. Uncharted 4 left Drake retired and raising a daughter with Elena, so any larger role would have to account for that ending, but nothing about the game’s actual story or setting has leaked yet.

Where It Fits in Naughty Dog’s Pipeline

As the report lays it out, the new Uncharted is currently slotted in after Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and ahead of The Last of Us Part III, though MP1st’s own sourcing cautions that plans like this change often, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if The Last of Us Part III ends up prioritized first instead. The report is based on unnamed sources rather than any official statement, so all of this should be treated as an early, unconfirmed look at Naughty Dog’s future lineup rather than a settled roadmap.
