PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct 2026 Recap: Thief’s Remaster, Stronghold 4’s Return, and Neon Abyss 2’s Release Date
The PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct returned for its second year on September 20, airing at 4 PM UTC (9 AM PT) and hosted by presenter Frankie Ward. The roughly hour long broadcast packed in 36 games and DLC, including 13 world premieres, arriving in the middle of Tokyo Game Show week, whose physical show floor runs at Makuhari Messe through September 21. It followed Capcom’s own TGS Spotlight earlier in the week, keeping the PC focused reveals flowing through the show’s final days.
Thief: The Dark Project Remastered Makes Its Comeback
The biggest legacy reveal of the night came from Nightdive Studios, which is remastering the original 1998 stealth classic Thief: The Dark Project in collaboration with Eidos Montreal, under publisher Atari. The remaster promises up to 4K resolution at 120 frames per second, modern gamepad support with gyro aiming, and all 12 of the original’s missions plus the three bonus missions from Thief Gold. No release date has been set, though Nightdive says it’s aiming for this winter.
Stronghold 4 Shows a New Look at Its Prequel Campaign
Firefly Studios returned to the stage with an updated look at Stronghold 4, first revealed back in June. Rather than continuing the story forward, Stronghold 4 works as a narrative prequel set years before the original 2001 game, and the new footage detailed a 22 mission single player campaign, a castle customization system, and a skirmish mode against up to eight CPU opponents. The game isn’t playable yet, with Firefly Studios planning an Early Access launch before a fuller release now expected in 2027.

Neon Abyss 2 Locks In an October Release Date
Veewo Games used the show to confirm Neon Abyss 2’s launch date of October 8, along with a new final boss called Theia, God of Vanity. The gun toting roguelike supports up to three player online co-op, continuing the original Neon Abyss’s mix of fast paced shooting and item heavy runs.
More World Premieres From the Show
Several other titles made their first public appearance during the broadcast. Really Illegal Golf, a multiplayer stealth game from developer Pushlab Games and publisher No More Robots about sneaking a golf ball past guards and cameras, got its debut trailer and a playable demo on Steam, with a full release planned for 2027. Taito and Clear River Games announced Lufia I & II: The Sinistrals Saga, bringing Lufia & the Fortress of Doom and Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals to PC for the first time alongside PS5, Switch, and Switch 2 in 2027. A horror themed cleaning game called Dust till Dawn, inspired by Junji Ito’s manga and scored by Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka, was also announced for a 2027 release. Elsewhere, the co-op shooter Mycopunk confirmed it will leave Early Access with its full 1.0 launch on October 20.
