Slow Horses Star Christopher Chung Joins Alfonso Cuarón’s Apple TV Horror Series Ascension
Christopher Chung is trading Slough House for a far stranger organization. The actor best known as the arrogant computer whiz Roddy Ho on Apple TV’s Slow Horses has been cast in Alfonso Cuarón’s upcoming psychological horror series Ascension, joining an ensemble built around Outlander alum Caitríona Balfe. Chung is one of three new additions revealed this week, expanding a cast that was already shaping up to be one of Apple TV’s most intriguing new projects.
Three New Faces Join Cuarón’s Cult Horror Series
Alongside Chung, Amanda Plummer and T’Nia Miller have also been added to the cast of Ascension. Plummer is a veteran character actor known for Pulp Fiction and Needful Things, while Miller is familiar to horror fans from The Haunting of Bly Manor. Character details for all three newcomers remain undisclosed, so it is not yet clear whether they will play members of the series’ central cult, people tied to its investigation, or figures from the lead character’s own life. The trio joins Balfe and previously announced cast member Bill Nighy, who signed on shortly after his casting in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Season 2.

Christopher Chung, seen here with the Slow Horses ensemble, is leaving Slough House behind for Alfonso Cuarón’s Ascension.
What Is Ascension About?
Ascension is inspired by Adam Nevill’s novel Last Days and follows Rose, a recently divorced documentary filmmaker played by Balfe who is brilliant at uncovering other people’s secrets but struggles with her own. When Rose begins a project on a mysterious 20th century group known as the Church of Ascension, she finds unexpected comfort in its teachings, until she starts to uncover something far more sinister underneath. Alfonso Cuarón writes and executive produces alongside his brother Carlos Cuarón, with Natalie Erika James and Christian White serving as showrunners. James, who also directs, and White previously collaborated on Relic and Apartment 7A, and Balfe is attached as an executive producer as well as the star.
From Slough House to a New Mystery
The casting comes just as Slow Horses wrapped its sixth season, with Chung’s Roddy Ho set to return for Seasons 7 and 8 alongside River Cartwright actor Jack Lowden and Gary Oldman’s Jackson Lamb. Ascension comes from Apple Studios in partnership with Esperanto Filmoj and Anonymous Content, and it marks Cuarón’s second Apple TV collaboration following Disclaimer. No premiere date has been set yet, though the project is expected to arrive sometime in 2027.
